Does anybody have any information on the origins of the Flinter surname and it's introduction to Ireland?

    MacLysaght says (p.111)

Though one of the name appears as an official in Carlingford in 1499, Flinters did not settle permanently in Ireland until the seventeenth century; they have been since continuously in Cos Kildare and Wicklow.

Grenham's surname page seems to concur.
