    Hi folks,

Passed my test last week and may be looking to change in the next 6-12 months,

Currently have a 2015 Honda CBR650F and looking for recommendations on what sportsbike to go for next,

I try to get out regularly including through winter, I will often use the bike to commute to work (45 Mins each way but open roads, not city commute thankfully)

I don't see the point in having it sitting at home doing nothing.

Shortlist in my head would be,

Aprilla RS660 Like the modern sportsbike look, not too powerful but expensive

Suzuki GSXR 750 They seem to be highly recommended

Fireblade Next logical step but might be too much of a jump in power yet

Ducati 848\959\Supersport Proper italian sportsbike but not sure if they are up for regular all year round use & servicing could be awkward

If any of ye have any experience of the above I would love to know what you think,

    Cheers

    Rob

Personally if I was you I'd look at something different you have a sports bike you could add to it and get a naked street bike, ,think there are some great ones about, Adventurer etc, just my 2 cents, you could go the R version of the cbr650f but I honestly don't know what the differences if there are any.

Haha yeah I wish I had the room or money for a second bike, current bike lives outside 24/7 (Under a cover of course)

You might have a sharp hike in insurance having recently only passed your test. Maybe get a few quotes if you are going to go the straight sports bike route.

    What about a CB1000R ?

The CB is a nice bike but I prefer having a fairing to a naked bike,

I'm just over 40 so Insurance isn't too bad

I'm in the same place as you but my dream* bike is a year or 2 away until I have a few years NBC built. I hadn't given naked bikes much thought until this year

Only experience I have on your list is with the Ducatis. The older models are pure savage, and in traffic your balls will be fired from the cylinder head being under the seat. On the open road they are a lot of fun, but a bit of pushing and they bite a bit. I rode a Panigale 959 recently, that was way more tame and useable.

Always remember, they cost a fortune to run as well with servicing and so on.

Yeah that's what puts me off the Ducati's as a few guys I have talked to said they can be costly to get work done on.

I have a CBR650F, and have been on gixxer 750's and blades and have owned similar supers. My advice would be stick with the CBR and ride the wheels off it unless you're truly bored of the power it can give or need upgrades in terms of the suspension, brakes etc. The CBR650 is pretty comfortable, relatively fast, a great commuter, and has the look - fairing, plus the 180 back tyre. The RS660 won't be a big change, it's lighter and bit more power but unless you're going flat out there'll be nothing in it, not worth the money imo, unless you're happy to spend about six grand with a trade in. The 750 or a blade would be worth it in terms of performance, and you could make a deal work in terms of finding one a few years old, but the downsides are you'll lose comfort (back and wrists will probably feel it). The CBR650 can get kind of a bad press as its lumped in with the other 650's which are less cylinders and power, but the CBR650 is closer to a supersport 600 than to the other 650's, albeit a 'softer 600' which isn't a bad thing - good pull from down low but can still scream along at high speed. As far as the blade being too big a jump - if you have no bother on your CBR then you'll be fine on a blade, but with any 1000 you'll find yourself having to rein it in more. Lastly, looks are a big thing and only you know what you like the look of best!
