Up for sale are a set of wheels as described above, I've had them approximately 14 years - in wheel boxes after buying them on ebay for a retro build that never happened. I never actually used them myself but had them checked them out by my lbs to make sure they were fine and they are. The wheels are in excellent condition overall and would be a fantastic finishing touch to that retro build. Asking price is €200, I'm happy to post or send by courier at buyer's expense. Please see attached photos.

Having trouble uploading pics, the hubs are smooth as butter, ton of life left in the rims. I'll mail you pics later as I'm at work.

It might be worth mentioning that although 10-speed these wheels should take an 11-speed HG700 (105) or HG800 (Ultegra) 11-34 cassette. Although, in fairness, the typical dura-ace user would probably balk at an 11-34 cassette! Even a 25 might be considered a bit wimpish.

Are these clinchers? Also where are you based??

I can't make head nor tail out of Sheldon's ramblings but my understanding is that any freehub that takes an e.g. 6600,6700,7800,7900, 10-speed cassette won't take a standard 11-speed cassette as it's too wide. However, the HG700 and HG800 come with a spacer which is required on an 11-speed freehub but can then be omitted to fit the cassette on an aforementioned 10-speed freehub! I think these cassettes are relatively new, released as part of the R7000, R8000 series and that none of the earlier 11-speed cassettes can be used on 10-speed freehubs.

    From that page:

To avoid this problem, Shimano has made the first change in its spline pattern since the introduction of Hyperglide in the late '80s. Dura-Ace 7800 10-speed freehubs have taller splines than other Shimano models.

As a result, it is not possible to install cassettes other than 10-speed models on Dura-Ace 7800 hubs. It is not, however necessary to use Dura-Ace 10 speed cassettes. The Ultegra 10 speed cassettes also accommodate the taller splines of the 7800 hubs.

@jayboy69 they are clinchers, I'm in Kerry. If I had been on earlier I could have saved everyone a lot of tooing and frooing. They are 10 speed. Out of curiosity I did try an 11 speed cassette and I can categorically confirm it won't fit!

Would you take €150 for them?, I can collect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭1971bsb

@jayboy69 Thanks for the offer but no. They are a bargain at €200, a set of the same hubs sold on ebay for close to what I'm asking for the wheelset recently.
