Deactivating old "SL 4" Alarm

We recently bought a house and discovered when turning on the fusebox that the good ol' alarm system had been left activated! Previous owner doesn't have a clue what the code was, so we are trying to figure out what company installed it to deactivate. Anyone know how this can be done (without setting it off for 20mins annoying the poor neighbours), or has anyone got a similar alarm to this?

That is a keyswitch panel, was there a locker type key on the keyring with your Front Door key when you were given the key originally. That unit to the front of the panel is actually a unit called an auto dialler.

If you have that key just turn it to test and leave the key in it until you can get someone competent to power down that panel.

Those systems used to be fitted to elderly peoples homes a few years back.

Seems to be a standard install alright. I checked it out and found that there's a battery in the left hand side, and the fuse is on the right. Disconnected the battery first then the fuse and bingo! All sorted now. It seems to be that once you've got the battery knocked out at the same time that the mains is off you can then completely disengage it by removing the fuse. I'd bet the sequence is important!
