Does an AirPod Max (or any of the Airpods) require a computer for updates, etc. ? And can they be set up to only work with one device? I would only be using them for AppleTV and wouldn’t want them connecting to my iPhone if I get a call - I read somewhere that they automatically do that if y out u are using them on a…

No, they update when connected to an iOS device.
