Replacement speaker for Yamaha 5.1

Hi folks,

I bought a Yamaha 5.1 system (YHT-199) from Richersounds about 5 or 6 years ago. It still works perfectly but I recently lost one of the rear speakers during a house move. Is it possible to buy a replacement speaker? And can you also recommend speaker stands that work with this model? I've included a link below.

Unfortunately we don't stock single Yamaha satellite speakers, we only sell them as part of a surround package.

You could go for a pair of standmount speakers which can replace your fronts and you can swap the current fronts with the rears. This would give a great improvement to the sound.

I would recommend something like the Fyne F300 to add into the system for new fronts:

You can indeed use other speaker manufacturers with the Yamaha amp.

Are you wanting to do away with the whole Yamaha 5.1 you have and use a soundbar that also allows rear speakers to be added?

Yes exactly. I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a soundbar and connect it to the Yamaha amp, and then use my current front speakers as rear speakers to create a 5.1 system. The option you suggested sounds more strightforward though.

Hi Tusky.

There would be no soundbars that I know of that can be used as front speakers along with an AV receiver other than Yamaha MusicCast products but this would involve a whole new setup pushing over £1000.

If you were to connect a soundbar up to an AV receiver you would end up with Audio delay or lip sync issues causing all sorts of issues on your viewing experience.

Easiest would be to replace the 2 rear speakers with new ones. Rear speakers are really only for sound effects unless you listen to music in 5 channel stereo mode.

Or you could use your current front speakers as the rears and purchase a new set of front speakers like the Fyne Audio ones listed above.

That's really helpful, thanks. Buying new front speakers seems like the best option then, to upgrade the system. I'll have a proper read up on the ones you've suggest later.

I have two more questions and then I'll leave you alone! Do you have those Bronze speakers in black, or only in walnut? And are there any speaker stands that excel in the looks department? They will have to go in a very prominent place in the room, so I'd prefer to spend a bit more on discreet/sleek looking ones rather than something clunky.

The Bronze 1 are only in the Walnut finish unfortunately.

Most speaker stands for the bookshelf type speaker tend to be big and chunky to make them steady to avoid being knocked over and to take the weight of the speaker.

Q7000i LRi would be a nice upgrade but they would not be as good as the larger one mentioned above. The larger speaker will produce more range.

For small compact speakers that sound very good then the Q7000 LCi are fantastic but it you can go to the larger bookshelf at the same money you will get better sound quality.
