Sowing a new Lawn

Hi,

Going to sow a new lawn with a Scotts spreader. I can't find in instructions on distance between passes or whether I need to sow twice at right angles at half rate. I've also read that half rate does not equate to half numerical setting on the spreader.

Any help?

Measure out a large area say, 50 m/sq, apply string line, or rope, then apply the required quantity of seed to the spreader, 35/ 40 gm/m2 . consult the instructions. ( throw away stupid american instructions)

If i use a seed or granular feed in a spreader i always like to do two passes at 90 degrees, this ensures complete coverage.

As for as width of spread, i think that's walking speed determined, so use your 50m/2 area, and do some tests, go round it once, and if you want, re measure the amount of seed left in the spreader, if you've managed 50% then you have the right setting.

I have an old Scott EasyGreen which has its application rate adjusted by a lever on the hopper rather than the new style rotary adjuster on the handle.

Do you know how I can ensure it is calibrated or whether I can use the settings for the EverGreen in this chart below? I can't find any downloads for it.

Honestly i'd start where i described above, measure out your material, and your area, then work at say 30% open, and see how many passes it takes on the area. if you can do the area in two passes in opposite directions, you're on to a winner.
