Sky pic disappears when outside light is stitched on!

    I came across this recently. Strange, any help much appreciated.



    Problem reported:

    Customer reported their Sky Q box was going into standby every time an outside patio light was switched on. 


    Set Up

    There is a wall mounted LED TV in the living room. The TV is connected to a Sky Q set top box (in comms press) using a HDMI converter over CAT5 cable. The converter has an IR output.

    The picture on the living room TV on HDMI1 (Sky) goes blank for a second when the outside light is switched on or off. This happens almost every tie the light is switched on or off.

    The outside lights (3) are LED and are physically close to the TV.


    Infra Red

    The infra red receiver at the TV end was disconnected to establish if the IR sensor was picking up IR interference when the light was switched on or off. The problem persisted with the sensor un plugged.


    TV

    The problem did not appear on the TV using Tube or Netflix, only on the Sky HDMI channel. A test monitor also established the TV was not the problem.


    HDMI Converter

    The HDMI converter was replaced and the problem persisted.



    Sky Box

    The HDMI signal coming out of the SKY box was tested before going into the HDMI converter at the comms press end. There was no issue with the Sky picture when the light was switched on and off. 



    CAT5 Cable

    A temporary CAT5 cable was run across the floor between the HDMI converter at the TV and the Sky box. The problem persisted.

    Is the problem with a particular brand of LED light and can different ones (perhaps from a more well known manufacturer if cheap Chinese ) be tried?

    What about trying screened CAT5 (or higher) cable?

    Thanks for your feed back. I didn't try a higher grade cable, even if it worked, it would not be an option to retro fit. We did consider changing the lights, but my guess is they are not cheapos. Also there are a sh1t load of similar lights around the property, so changing lights is not really an option.
