Renting a Ram

Is there such a thing as renting a ram for a few weeks like can be done with bulls. currently have 9 ewes/hoggets that i wanted to breed to try and see how i get on with an aim to getting more the following year when more experienced with lambing. Obviously not viable to buy a ram for that number and people will suggest borrowing a ram but the thing is there is no sheep farmers where i am so i dont know anyone well enough to ask to borrow a ram. Wondered would a breeder rent a ram for a few weeks or what other options have i. Could i buy a ram someone is finished with due to age and was going to send to the factory and that i could then fatten when finished with

Lad I know has about 30 ewes and gets a ram lamb of the butcher that he sells his lambs to usually a suffock x texel and they always do well for him and he keeps some ewe lambs for replacement every year as well

So do you mean approach a butcher that would have bought ram lambs to fatten and get one of him that you could then give or sell back to him?...have ram lambs myself that are soon going to the factory but they are suffolks and i want to use a charlois or vendeen for ease of lambing. Now the suffolk rams were running with the ewes until the end of July so hope they have not damage done already!!

Ya he'd sorce one for him if he didn't have one himself don't think he charges anything just yer man has to keep him fit for slaughter when he's finished

that seems a good idea i could probably buy a ram lamb or 2 myself at the mart, and sell them again after.

I wouldn't like to have to eat him after chasing ewes for a month or so, I wouldn't thinka much of a butcher allowing it either.

Some people like the strong ram taint but I know plenty tha won't touch lamb because of it

Chefs on television advise viewers not to buy lamb after august or before march, taht they have a season same as fruits etc

Need a Ram soon here.

Just wondering would the early lambers be soon finished with their rams and rather might be more available on donedeal shortly.

Small numbers here so won't be spending big on one

I'd imagine you're right.. .I worked from opposite and and managed to borrow a ram from a neighbour who wont want him till mid October. In since Saturday evening and has 4 of seven tipped..fingers crossed all ne done soon and no repeats
