    Cats.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

The amount of memes I can relate to in this thread is scary.

How do I know the difference between social anxiety and introvert? I relate to a lot of memes on here but I think it's social anxiety.

As far as I understand, introverts find interaction with others easy, but it's just draining.

No, not easy. And social anxiety is caused by being forced to interact with people when you're not comfortable with it.

I find it interesting that introverts are asked to force themselves "outside their comfort zone" and be sociable, but as soon as extroverts have to force themselves "outside their comfort zone" and be solitary, there's suddenly a lot of focus on it being bad for their mental health. Double Standards Central.

This is the actual doormat I use for my front door , the wife wasn’t overly impressed when purchased 😬

Very hard to separate the two social anxiety and being introvert and I think the two with me anyway are very much entwined.

Being married with kids it’s near impossible to get out of all socialising and it wouldn’t be fair on the family to not do anything. But even after 25 years of marriage my wife still doesn’t understand the level of dread I feel when a social is planned especially with people I wouldn’t be familiar with ..

For me the hard part is not understanding how people perceive me am I coming across as snobby or a bit of dick because I am not “ mingling “ and sitting in the corner supping my pint counting down the minutes to when I can leave . Sometimes I actually freeze when a person I don’t know makes small talk at an event and god only knows what response I will stutter out .. and that will dwell in my mind for days and thinking when I didn’t say this or that.

i do like the pub an empty pub where i can grab a newspaper and have two or 3 quiet pints in my own little world or maybe with 2 or 3 other people I am comfortable with at a push

I can relate with a lot of memes here but I think it's social anxiety, not just introversion.

I fear going into my local town after being away for so long because I don't know what to say to people I might know. Do I stop and stay talking to them and acknowledge I've been away so long? Do I just say hello and keep going? Do I even acknowledge people I just know to see? I'm awful at small talk, always becomes awkward.
