How does HAP work?

Does anyone understand how HAP works for a tenant?

I am applying for social housing and I know I am entitled to HAP. Is it a separate application to social housing?

Another question, how much of a HAP payment could I possibly get? Knowing this before looking for a place might help.

Not enough to rent a two bed place as your other thread suggests.

How much depends on whether you're on regular or homeless HAP and what council area.

Yes separate application after you are accepted onto the social housing list.

Depends on which county you live in and if you have a partner and/or children.

Have I got this right? I have to find a place within the rent limits as well?

Yes, good luck with that. Easier said than done.

Sorry for all my questions but I need to plan or have some idea on the place I can get with hap.

Another question, the rent limit for my area is 550. Does this mean that I would get the full 550 or some of it?

I still haven't applied for social housing, waiting for a few documents to arrive first. But I should have my application in soon.

If the rent limit for a single person is 550. And I find a place for 1000. Does that mean I pay the difference to the landlord of 450+a contribution to the council. A quick google shows the contribution could be 10% of my salary which could be 250euros a month.

Do I have my sums correct? Or can the council decide to pay 400euros, I pay the difference and a contribution to the council?

Unless you're on homeless HAP the council are unlikely to approve the property with rent so far in excess of the limit.
