Free Travel Pass on Dublin Public Transport

I'm going to be spending quite some time in Dublin for the foreseeable going to and from Hospital. Luckily enough I have a Free Travel Pass but I'm wondering how it's used for say Dublin Bus, DART, and Luas do you just go on and show it or scan it, or a bit of both? There doesn't seem to be any kind of helpful guide like…

On Dublin Bus you place your Public Service Card on the validator to the right as you enter the bus.
On DART you place your card at the validator at the barrier/entrance
On LUAS you place your card at the validator (blue machine) at the LUAS stops.
