Jobseekers Allowance Rate

Hey everyone. My sibling was recently made redundant and is receiving the reduced jobseekers allowance of €112.70 per week.

She will be 25 in early September and she will be entitled to the full €203.00

Will the social welfare automatically transfer her to the full amount after her birthday? or do you need to do something?

    Thanks everyone.

    Hello,

    No is the quick answer,

This topic has come up in the past. Odd as it seems, the Department don't pick up on this and your sibling will need to wait until they turn 25 and then make direct contact with their local Intero centre.

It's a straightforward enough process, in normal times they could just drop in but get them to check opening times and any restrictions etc. I'd bring ID, birth cert if available, proof of address etc, keep in mind means test still applies but once turning 25, an applicants parents income is no longer assessed. Finally, I'm doubtful all this can be processed via mywelfare account an I believe it requires a face to face appointment.

    Hope this helps

You don't need to contact them it's done automaticaly.

If for sone reason it's not done automaticaly, just tell her to email them and they'll sort it. No need to go into the office.

    It is not

OP is free to check this for themselves.

Thanks for both of your answers.

I'm surprised it's not done automatically in this day and age. Would it be possible to ring the local Intero centre when she turns 25 instead of going to the centre in person?

I'm sure something could be sorted over the phone since her claim is currently active for the €112.70

She could contact them by email but I have my doubts about them replying.

I'd say Dempo1 has answered your query very comprehensibly.. as he usually does :)

But one thing that has me a little baffled.. if you're sibling qualified for redundancy, then they would have to have been employed for a minimum of two years. Therefore, they should have paid sufficient PRSI contributions (stamps) to qualify for JSB. Which is not means tested and should be entitled to full amount of €203 regardless of living with parents etc.

Not looking for your siblings personal work record BTW! I'm just curious as to why JSB didn't apply. I'm guessing a shortfall in PRSI contributions.

Yeah she has been living abroad studying for a few years. Returned home in late 2019. Shame about the shortfall.

No problem, it is of course an option to call or indeed email, just from previous posters experience, they made an appointment but as I mentioned it's a different world at the moment, social distancing etc so perhaps the department will accommodate your sibling via email, documentation etc.

Thanks for that. Yeah I think I will advise her to call nearer the time and see if she needs to go further and make an appointment or not.

Great, just keep in mind, they'll unlikely do anything until sibling turns 25 😉
