Where is all the sparkling water gone

For about 2 weeks now none of the shops have it.

Local Centra, Tesco, Dunnes or Lidl.

Is there some kind of bubbles shortage going on?

It's probably to do with Brexit, someone got me a Soda Stream for Xmas last year but I can't use it as Argos don't have the gas any more, due to feckin' Brexit.

Same happened in the long hot summer of 2018….not a sparkling water bottle to be found in the supermarkets….and even the weather cooled it miraculously re-appeared….there didn’t seem to be an shortage of the still stuff then (or during our recent heatwave)🤷‍♀️

I used to get refills at Argos but there are other places - try McAuleys pharmacy online or Dominic Smith hardware - both sell the one I need at a cheaper rate than Argos did in any case.

Food-grade CO2 supplies run low in Summer as its a side production from ammonia manufacture which drops in summer due its own demand cycles.

In hotter summers there is more demand for carbonated drinks of all kinds which makes the low supply more obvious.

It isn't easy or cheap to just extract it from the air and purify to a food-grade standard.
