Getting back into photography

I used to post quite frequently in here a few years back, even had photos in a few of the yearbooks. But the usual story happened I guess, busier family, work etc and I pretty much stopped taking photos. I still don't have a huge amount of time but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. Finding it tough lol.

I do remember a lot of the technical stuff and still have my photoshop keyboard shortcuts muscle memory. Its more about finding a PP style I like again and getting back into recognising what makes an interesting shot for me. Ive posted a few bits on 500px (Patrick Horgan (patrickhorgan) Profile / 500px), the last 6 were recently done and Im not super happy. Anyway it will take a while. Just wondering if anyone else was in a similar boat? Any recommendations of decent PP tutorial sites for new ideas or anything like that?

Im still using my trusty Olympus M4/3 EM10 MKII. Got the standard kit lens, wide adaptor, sigma 30mm f2.8 and an old manual focus 50mm.

i haven't taken photos in a serious way in a few years, can't blame family, but similar in that other things are always getting in the way. have to drop a couple of lenses in to see if fungus can be cleaned out of them, and my continued failure to get the finger out to do this is acting as an excuse not to take the cameras out.

btw, i have a four thirds mount sigma 30mm f1.4, and no camera to fit it on anymore. do they fit on micro four thirds cameras?

same boat ninja, remember you from back in the day here, been mulling getting back into it all, same as magicbastarder, used to be some fun on this forum....what 10 years ago...

Sorry I'm not contributing anything helpful but I'm in exactly the same boat. Haven't taken any real photos in years. The camera and multiple lenses are sitting in the cabinet opposite me. Buying a house, then a little one coming along just seemed to leave me with no time. I'd love to get back into it but I'm not sure how these days.

EDIT: Sorry I missed the 4/3 part. Yeah it should fit m4/3 but an adaptor is needed I think. Not sure if the adaptor allows AF.

I remember yourself and Kintaro up there. Wow 10 years? Time flies.....I still follow some of you lot on Instagram I think and possibly some more on 500px. Ive kinda dropped off the other sites.

Ive forgotten just how time-consuming photography is. I guess the only answer is to tackle it at your own pace however slow it might be.

I still use 500 but have any new good photo sharing sites (for more everyday photos) cropped up or is it still flicker?

I've found myself going through troughs before when I don't take photographs for a while. This whole situation with Covid hasn't really done me any favours over the last year, I found myself exchanging my normal photo obsession with one for, in order, radio controlled model yachts (built one, didn't sail it yet), radio controlled model planes (built two, haven't flown the bigger of the two yet), and mechanical keyboards (thought that was at least on offshoot of having to work from home with crappy ergonomics), so far I've built 3 of them from scratch including writing the firmware 🤣

At some point I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of things. Still on flickr, though they've upped their prices twice over the last few years after the smugmug acquisition.

-edit- ah actually I'd forgotten two photographic things I've spent time on while locked up. One was ripping old 35mm SLRs to bits to convert to pano cameras

The other was was trying to construct DIY compound lenses for large format

mechanical keyboards? as in for typing or keyboards for making music with?

For typing, you can check out the rest of www.dairequinlan.com if you want to see the sort of rabbit hole I went down :-D

One of the things I'm doing at the moment though is a plugin for my firmware which remaps the keyboard as an isomorphic MIDI controller with a Janko or Wicki-hayden layout. Rabbit holes, rabbit holes :-D

Now thats a rabbit hole. Built a PC myself during the year. Just manged to grab a 1660 super before the prices went crazy. Ill have a look back at flicker I guess. Instagram eh...but doesn't it require a square crop?
