Information on Chair ?

Hi all

Can anyone help with identifying this chair please...or suggestions about where I might get some info ?. Been in the family home for 60-ish years.

Bring a photo to your local antique dealer or furniture auction house.

I suspect it may be an office chair but can’t tell if it’s too low for a desk.

Could it have been adapted at some stage. Again difficult to tell but wood on arms and back seem different to legs.

Or it could have been a special order, made to someone’s specifications.

It is a lovely piece of furniture.

HI - Its a Victorian mahogany library (or reading) chair.

Usually dating to the mid 19th C , legs suggest a bit later in the date bracket, maybe 1870-90 I'd say.

That type of staining on the mahogany is also corresponding to that kind of date.

Made very well - will be around for another century or more . The seat is pretty much the only thing that will need mending as time goes by.

The seat stuffing or strap-work supports underneath will wear over time, easily mended.
