Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pubs and restaurants with rigorous checks for vaccine certificate

Hello, am visiting Ireland soon with my girlfriend*. I am reading in Covid forum that many pubs and restaurants are very relaxed about checking for vaccine certificate (I read some not checking at all) and social distancing rules. My girlfriend is fully vaccinated, has certificate and is very hygienic. She does not want to go pubs and restaurants where anyone is coming in. Can anyone inform me what pubs or restaurants in Dublin (city centre) do rigorous checks for entry - for example asking to see certificate or asking to scan certificate - and are most safe. Also if anyone would like to warn me by direct message (not balance in public) what pubs have « relaxed » approach (no checks) and where there is a lot of social mixing I thank you in advance.

*Am actually arriving a few days (Friday and Saturday night) before her to check everything is fine.

Ooops…..don’t tell her the person that gets closest and touches plates, utensils etc will likely unvaccinated!

you were asking about how rigorous checks at the airport were a few weeks ago as you wanted to enter with no covid cert or test hmmm

While I would not believe everything you read on the internet there are certainly places where there are no restrictions. It will depend on where you are and how busy the place is. Any place I have been here in Limerick were doing it. I say most places will stretch the rules as far as they can but the majority are going with the guidlines in relation to masks and table placing at least

More full me if that is the case to give an answer to the question

I'd be strongly of the opinion the OP is trying to gauge businesses so they can fire abuse at them over social media much like a tiny little cabal of anti vaxers have been doing the last few weeks.

    Best give them zero information.

My experience.. they're not very rigorous.

They may check ID and the name on the cert but won't scan the qr code, detect forged certs and prob won't scrutinise cert or ID as much as immigration would.

Bear in mind some pubs served throughout the lockdown.

Yes, my girlfriend and I have views different on these things, but I want the holiday to be enjoyable for her. Unfortunately because I have been to Ireland before (and it is my idea to visit) I have to do all research and work.

No problem for her, she will disinfect with personal supply in backpack. She is doing my hands every time I am touching something « not clean ».

Went for dinner in a Cork city restaurant on Friday night and they were very strict on checking covid credentials before we were allowed to our table.

It was great to know that we had no anti-vax knuckle draggers in our midst. The steak was top notch too👌

In fact am doing the opposite.

The one’s I am trying to shame on facebook (false account) are the nightclubs that refuse to reopen their doors. In Switzerland is upside-down mentally sickness thinking. These nightclubs say it is « discrimination » to do simple antigen test before entering and will not open until there is no testing and certificate. Maybe this is not believable to you in Ireland but this is thinking in some alternative (my favourite) clubs. They try to present themselves like Nelson Mandela - and everyone in comments are saying they are heroes. « Wow, what prinicipals ». « More people like you in the world, please. ». Real reason is because staff and management are still receiving government money (this I understand but don’t be f&&&ing hypocrite*). I tag them on pages of other clubs that are open and say, « See it is possible » etc.

I am not criticising businesses who are doing their best and want to work. You should be careful before making such type of comments.

*Insult is in direction of « Nelson Mandela » club-owner. Not you (and, of course, not Nelson Mandela, is expression).

Just stay outside in beer gardens if your not going to be able to relax.

    and book them in advance

Anti vax knuckle draggers .. you know you sound like a bell-end right now? Keep it for imho/current affairs

These vaccines are not proven to be safe, effective or necessary long-term.

I got them for my convenience while travelling (along with yellow fever, hepatitis and others) but of all travel vacs i have received, this is the only one i was anxious of getting and the only one that gave side effects (numb fingers fora day). If i had kids under 18 i would not recommend this vaccination.

Numb fingers for a day? The horror!

firstly, what is the Nelson Mandela reference. It appears to be in reference to the fact that a lot of people consider him a hero for his actions but others I.e. would have the opposite opinion and believe it’s a manipulative false narrative, ok. Never heard that description before and a bizarre way to give an example.

as for you going on social media and actually shaming an establishment for doing something that’s entirely up to them, just absolutely ridiculous.

is this really what people do? And shoehorn in South African presidents to make a point. Be careful you can be guilty of libel or electronic harassment if there is any falsities in your accusations. And perhaps a nice breath of fresh, relax.

    I did not explained well.

Government here is making maximum effort to open up society. Saying, yes you can open up nightclubs but you must do small test before to confirm you do not have Covid (this can be done 15 minutes before going into club and testing is not responsibility of club owners, checking yes).

Some club owners are saying « We are against (obligatory) testing, we are against vaccines, we are against all discrimination. We refuse to open our clubs until every person can walk in with no checks (presuming ok if you have coughing and have fever too). ». They are making big speech on on their facebook and keep saying they are against « discrimination ». And 100+ comments saying « Yes, you are hero for what you do. ».

I am saying you want to make yourself like you are Nelson Mandela (who is real hero) but you are not. You are getting 4’000 Fr. a month from goverment and living in 3,5 rooms in Geneva. This is not Robben Island. Take governement money, ok, but open club or shut your mouth. Don’t be hypocrite.

aantix80, FintyLemon and db pro-vaccine / anti-vaccine debate is pointless and is not for this discussion. I see you are Flagged, this is not me doing this.

Can we return to point of supplying me with names of pubs that abide by law and are safe. And also you can direct message me names of pubs not strict and where there is not social-distancing (too much socialising), that is, places to avoid.

It is very simple. If you go to the door of a pub and they don't check then go somewhere else.

Actually am experimenting with Covid Certificate today and see that pdf is modifiable. This means someone who is only tested can change to look like they have vaccine. With system open to abuse like this only sure check is if Certificat is scanned by restaurant or pub. Is this happening anywhere ?

It's going to be an expensive holiday for you after your MHQ and €2000 fine for using a fake certificate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,832 ✭✭✭Allinall

    I wouldn’t do that.

There’s a good chance you will be positive. What will you do then?

I’d go with the forged cert. the Irish will never catch on.

Your 2nd post and your looking for people to rat? 🤔

In anyway, why not go where you want to go and if they don’t check credentials and your not happy with that just leave. No?

I've found every place I've been in Cork City to be very compliant with the checks.

I know but it is risk I have to take. Unfortunately controls on Swiss side will be rigorous so have no choice.

I cannot check myself as I am not vaccinated. Information is for girlfriend.

On your other thread you say you aren't getting a PCR test because it is too expensive. Which one is it?

After receiving information from other members I decided that I will get PCR - this is in my reply to DSN on 28.07. It looks like it is impossible to enter with antigen test. Also you have to give date of PCR test and test location on Passenger Location Form so no choice. For me filling this with a lie and sending it to government is not possible.

You're tripping over yourself here. You will get a PCR test for flying here but you will forge a covid certificate to go to a restaurant. The penalty for each is much the same. This is a poor effort. 🤣🤣🤣

It is like difference between bringing 1 kg of cocaine onto aeroplane and 1 kg of cocaine into restaurant. Penalty is same but risk of getting caught at restaurant is much lower (and much easier to run away from).*

*My research is for girlfriend to avoid places where people are breaking health rules.

Here is my experience in Ireland.

First, great holiday and girlfriend enjoyed a lot too. I did not drink alcohol during holiday so different to last visit.

We went to café in Dublin first morning. Girlfriend doesn’t know Irish rules so walked behind her. Ordered « flat white » (Irish special) « to have here ». Guy just asked her for contact number - no Government drugs certificate. So every morning we are starting here with 2 flat whites. Very cool place. Coffee is excellent. For information do not think guys are anti-vaccine (listened to some conversations) so didn’t understand their approach. Inside is small (only 4 seats) and business is principally « to go ». Busy and slow for service (even if you just have 2 people in front of you). Have to queue again if you want 2nd order.

For dinner we eat outside in Dublin every night. Again very cool. Street restaurants on Capel Street. Also small vegetarian restaurant in city centre. In vegetarian they asked to scan certificate for 2 of us so we said no and eat on street, again no problem.

Girlfriend is beginning to understand no indoor eating with Jean François on holiday. Explained it is country with retrograde mentality (not my feelings of Ireland, just excuse for me). Explained very strict restrictions and even no dancing allowed during COVID. She say « Jean François, tu dis n’importe quoi » (Jean François, you are full of ****).

Next visit Galway. I can tell girlfriend is disgusted by this town. « Market Street » and « Eyre Square ». So walk outside of town. We cross park with voice of former North Korean Waste Minister coming from high-speaker telling me to pick up my waste every 3 minutes. Also repeats in language like Polish or perhaps Newspeak. We walk to bay and I see sign for comedy festival telling people « No Dancing » so girlfriend is now believing me that Ireland is retrograde mentality.

We visit Clifden. All restaurants and café here is respecting rules. We eat outside every night (like all cool people in town). It embarrassing to see Irish collaborateurs - old men with big stomachs in 50’s and 60’s - making queue outside of restaurants to show Government anal probe certificate to be allowed to eat in restaurants of their country. Like 16 year old trying to enter discotheque.

Last bit of holiday is in expensive hotel in South-West. Very strict. Transparent plastic panels everywhere. Staff seems to be 90% teenage girls. At end of Saturday night I walk around hotel and see (assuming) wedding party with half of people dancing to music (other half look uncomfortable). In the end I am not understanding rules as this is strict hotel. But very good too.

Yeah man... I get it, a lot of Swiss complaining about the cost of PCR Tests when just over the border in Germany its 70-90 euros cheaper.

You do know there are plenty of countries that require PCR Tests (Spain) and also countries where you cannot sit indoors without a Vaccine Cert, Test or Cert of Recovery (Your big neighbor Germany being one of them)

If you can't be botherered following the rules then don't fly, take a car and drive local (you'll need an Antigen test to enter Germany and an antigen test every 48 hours if you want to eat indoors while here)

    Or get Vaccinated.

But there's no point in trolling people online, just get on with it.

Yes Mr. « Learn to code. ».

Visit was very pleasant despite restrictions. If you do keep promise to allow unvaccinated to attend your nightclubs in October I will be returning soon to mix freely with you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,387 ✭✭✭redcup342

Nah man won't happen, I live in Germany anyway, thats also going towards Vaccinated or Recovered only (Hamburg for example) other states are PCR Test only for Nightclubs although they will move over as well.

Am just absorbing news about Ireland’s unrelaxed relaxation of rules for nightclub (you were right). Unfortunately cannot return there for night out under these conditions.

    Hopefully after skiing season.

You are only encouraging me by your actions.

From what I read checks are non-existent in some parts of Ireland. Case closed.
