Oh ya, I think both are fully deserving but I just feel Callinan might be seen as having more of a role in the short term given his position, Hession injury, think he's more up to S&C levels etc.

Touhy has done great but I wouldn't mind him playing U20s. I think he would benefit from it more. Hard to imagine that he wasn't even playing outfield until a few years ago. (I think he was a keeper until he was 15/16... Not sure how true that is, but some trajectory if true)

Tough competition alright. Great to have it.

I don't know if it was just my TV adding a few extra pounds. But does Padraig O'Hora carrying a bit.

Or maybe it's just bulk from gym work.

Doubt swanny would be carrying any weight, could be the new haircut

I think Callinan and Tuohy should both be let off to play for the U-20s and not considered for the senior time as long as that championship is running. They'll have long enough to be playing senior and the experience of leading a team could stand them much better in the long term

I really like callinan. Are we short on backs with an injury or two. Much prefer callinan over Brickenden

Also mcstay must rate touhy fairly highly if he’s playing him ahead of Orme , Doherty, towey.

Seems to be carrying a few extra pounds alright.... imagine he lifted a fair few extra pounds to gain it though.

Could imagine a few training sessions on Aido at full forward would drive you on in the gym to help for next time.

i think logic is failing you tsudhonimh.

did he play well when he came on? i remember seeing him being brought on, but nothing after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭TsuDhoNimh

Not sure what reasoning you're basing the logic failing me on. Care to explain?

Picture clearly shows he has bulked up. A lot of additional upper body strength on Swanee (looks to have added a couple of inches around the chest) on a lad that was never lacking in it before.

Played fine when he came on in a game that Donegal had already dropped their heads. No opposition he took up offered anything, which is the primary role of any defender, and constantly moving getting into good positions to be an outlet for teammates while never getting caught out of position. He made one great burst and had a horrific shot at the end of it pulled well wide... but given the context of the game at the time and Donegal's lack of press I'd not lend too much credence to it had it sailed over or even further wide. Coming on 8 minutes from the end it's about as much as you'd hope for.

I see the Irish Examiner are reporting that Mayo have requested the Div 1 final be played on the Saturday.

Makes total sense imo, GAA will probably reject it 😁

Apart from inconveniencing the 4 teams who could make the final, who may now have to plan for a 6 day turnaround post a competitive game to get there rather than 7 days? And inconvenience the D3 or D4 teams who've to move from Saturday to Sunday? And change the competition structure and planning that every county knew fully about last Autumn, less than 10 days out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭PressRun

It's worth asking. The turnaround is very tight.

    I totally agree.

For as long as I can remember the league final has been a Sunday afternoon.

There was war in 2006 (Kerry v Galway) when it was moved to Limerick at 6pm on a bank holiday Sunday because there was a Munster v Leinster rugby game on in Dublin.

Mayo always knew they would have to play Roscommon on April 9th.

They always knew that of they got to a league final they would have a week to prepare.

    So prepare.

Makes a lot of sense, even more sense would be to have a fortnight between the League final and start of the Championship. 6 or 7 days is crazy.

Would also make sense to have the Div 1 & 2 finals played on a Saturday if they're looking to get the best crowd possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,601 ✭✭✭MacDanger

Makes sense to ask at least although I doubt it will be granted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,664 ✭✭✭Blackjack

I can see tons of moral outrage emerging from beneath bridges on this matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,075 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Ah sure, we should have requested the change last year when we knew we were going to be in the league final for certain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,908 ✭✭✭HBC08

We'd hardly be asking before we qualified would we?

Part of the preparation might be asking to have it on a Saturday if we qualified.Knowing McStays organisational skills and planning I wouldn't think any scenario is left unplanned for.

Good move by Mayo,if it works we get an extra day rest,if it doesn't we've at no more of a disadvantage.

Was it ever confirmed that the final has to be Sunday?

All 4 finals are currently down for Saturday on the GAA website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Lukekul

RTE have it pencilled in for 4pm the Sunday. Usual time/day for Div 1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭PressRun

Yeah, I'm sure they're well prepared to just get on with it but there's no harm in asking. Don't ask, don't get.

The calendar is a fck up anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 820 ✭✭✭RedDevil55

But that's obviously not confirmed by the GAA. The Mayo Roscommon championship game is down for 4pm on Sunday 9th. None of the league finals have a confirmed time yet.

Ridiculous that none of the league final times and dates are not confirmed yet. These should have been fixed a good while ago.

Even worse is that a good few first round provincial games in Munster and Leinster for the 9th of April still don't have times or venue confirmed yet.

Worst of all, Leitrim could be in a league final next weekend and then straight off to New York for a match the following weekend.

The whole league and championship structure this year is a sh1tshow.

Last year all the finals were in CP on a Saturday and Sunday. There was a bit of a back lash in fans having to travel to and from Dublin on the same day. Accommodation in Dublin makes it unfeasible to hold all the finals there this year.

I imagine the GAA is waiting to see who is in the final to decide where.

    At a guess

Galway/ Mayo in Hyde park 4pm on the Sunday, if it's Kerry it will be in Limerick

Derry v Louth or Dublin in Omagh.

There are multiple option in D3 and D4

Lads...if you're bringing kids to a game do you have to book the tickets via Ticketmaster (I know they're free) or can you just rock up to the gate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭TsuDhoNimh

Croke Park Premium tickets have had all 4 pencilled in for Croker since the start of the year (with 1 & 2 pencilled for the Sunday).

I'd imagine there is 0% chance of the Division 1 or 2 final ending up in the Hyde or anywhere except Croker (small chance of Division 3 and/or 4 being moved). Too many sponsors and annual ticket holders to be looked after who carry large financial implications.

I went to the Kerry game in Castlebar with 6 u16s.

Didn't pre book anything for the kids, just turned up, no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,394 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

The league is the second biggest competition in the calendar.

They don't move it out of Croke Park willy-nilley.

As I said there was consternation back in 2006 when it was moved to Limerick.

Tell the players/fans of Cavan that they can't have a day out in Croke Park.

Cheers @Green&Red and @Fr Tod Umptious ....hoping to finally get to a game this weekend... unfortunately it'll be Limerick vs Tipp 😬.... hopefully I can pick up some tips to pass on my struggling U11 squad 😆

Planning to head to the League Final wherever it's on....Kerry in the Gaelic Grounds would be handy for me but can't see it being moved out of Croker either way. The League Finals last year were fairly brutal....I was there both days for 3 poor games (Galway vs Rossies wasn't bad iirc)...at least if Dublin are on the same day there might be a bit of a crowd/atmosphere

The part where you say he's carrying extra weight . but he lost weight🤔

Big difference between losing weight and gaining muscle.

I'd be shocked if he's weighing less on a scales. I'd be equally shocked if he isn't stronger, lifting more, probably lower body fat and (most importantly from our point of view) even more tank like on the field or ferocious in a tackle.

The concern seeing lads bulk like that is they might lose a little acceleration or top speed if they've not balanced the workloads... but didn't seem to be any signs of that on him in the burst so plenty of positives in the brief cameo. Hopefully gets an extended run on Sunday to properly stretch the legs.
