Humidity solutions

So, we all know that rust is the enemy of our firearms whether stainless steel or not .... and humidity right now is pretty high. I was just wondering what you do to try and combat dampness, humidity and rust.

Me, I have some desecant sachets in my safes (came with some computer parts). I also have some of those rechargeable dehumidifier cassettes in the safes.

Does anybody have what they believe to be better solutions?

Electronic dehumidifier on a timer, plus a well sealed & insulated safe placed where there is little temp deviation.

Guns also stored outside cases, actions open for better circulation, with zero material touching anything metal.

Also only cleaned guns go in, so no mud or anything else in there to carry moisture.

That and a thin coat of CLP on all moving parts seems to do the trick, especially for the more modern guns.

Older ones with a bit less capable coatings get a thorough clean ~once every 2 months, which does for them fine too.

A run down with a Rangoon* oily rag and a load of those silica yokes in the safe.

• Apparently magic oil.

Use anything thats available to hand which attracts and is able to absorb moisture, desecant sachets, pampers nappy’s, don’t laugh, they have a gel in them, whatever you use, be sure to change/renew a few times and year.

End of day, nothing beats regurlar inspection, cleaning and a good coat of oil though.

bTW on dessicant packets.Stick them in the oven on a low heat for an hour or so once every 12 months.They will dry out and are reuseable.
