Joe always proudly says “we in Ireland DO DEATH VERY WELL”. We are in a great hurry to bury or burn corpses, not quite as much as Middle Eastern religions who historically had practical weather-related & hygiene reasons for expeditious earthing of bodies. UK give dignified time for family to come to some early terms before they have to witness their loved ones’ remains being dispatched. In Ireland all and sundry turn up to every funeral where there’s plenty of gossip, news, a bit of grub going and to show how “caring” they are. In UK family have a bit more control of the business if the final goodbye.

Beans, beans, are good for your heart

The more / less you eat, the more/less you fart

The more/less you fart, the better you feel

So let's have beans with every meal.

it was a fabulous piece of fiction . Pity there was no disclosure that the program was devoid of any scientific evidence apart from the opinion of self appointed “experts” who make observations of phenomenon & come to biased conclusions to fit the climate fear cult.

I didn’t watch PBH but I hate shows like this. By now the man on the street knows the climate is changing and sea levels are rising as a consequence. If you live in a coastal region, particularly in the west, you don’t need a show to tell you this.

I’m sceptical of climate change so called “experts” as not very long ago the climate change prediction was that Ireland would get hotter and drier. Yay! We all said! Actually it’s looking like getting hitter and wetter on the western side at least.

Now we get “experts” after every decent storm or flood putting it all down to climate change but hedging their bets starting out saying it can’t be directly linked but they somehow manage to land the blame squarely by the time they’re finished. Now even freak weather events are due to climate change. These people aren’t experts. They’re just single issue campaigners grasping at any straw to bolster their position.

It was actually more warmer air, meaning more moisture and more rain and storms. We don't see that many storms though, yet. The flooding is not just caused by more precipitation but also by human land-use change - more tarmac, more development, more humans living in traditional flood plains, less trees, less bogs, etc.

I enjoy understanding the science behind it all and it is far more complex than might meet the eye of basics. It seems like some of my friends never even did intermediate or junior cert science, and certainly did not raise their curiosity beyond this stage. One thing about learning to fly, you had to understand the basic principles of meteorology if not climate itself, and the basic physics of aerodynamics, the more you understood the better.

What I loved about Lord Boucher-Hayes’ program, apart from reminding me of the beautiful scenery of Greenland, and making me envious of Fillup, was how it explained to me some of the science that at one pass of the brain might not be apparent. Of course, added warmth means more moisture = more rain. Overall there’s more dynamic weather with globally increased temperature. More melting, more evaporation, faster cycling of water molecules, change of ocean currents, expansion of water molecules and the latter seems to be the largest factor in sea level rise. Ice has larger volume than water, so melting alone doesn’t contribute quite as much to sea level rise as would first meet the eye as it is offset to a measure by the atmosphere absorbing the moisture.

The program also highlighted the release of carbon in polar latitudes as permafrost melts and how this accelerates climatic effect.

Lord Boucher-Hayes may be an arrogant crayture, but he is an intelligent one and can present programs that require more depth of understanding. VN you imagine Joe presenting a program on climate change and Fillup presenting Lahvlahn… oh wait a minute 🤣

For anybody wishing to understand about scientific consensus regarding climate change this portal is quite comprehensive and it’s a valid source of information.

I see somebody is stepping into Cull’Em’s Saturday show. Maybe he’s on holidays, maybe he’s being rested ahead of presenting Liveline 🤔

yes. That is the graph. The problem is that no scientist has ever provided a CAUSE & EFFECT to determine that humans are responsible for this graph. It’s the difference between science & scientism (the latter which is commands modern day consensus)

Yes I understand your take on it, and that such science (science = knowledge) is evolving. But I would certainly myself agree with overall erring on the side of the caution that our evolving activity may be a big part of climate change. At the same time I have some counter ideas from a visit to Newfoundland & Labrador’s S hence Centre’s Johnson Geo Centre in St John’s, Newfoundland. I visited when there were direct flights from Dublin. They postulated a number of scenarios, which was interesting.

Most of the 'talent' will have the Easter holidays either off or curtailed.

Kullum could be in for Laaavhline .

Not much sign of any 'changes ' by Kevin so far.

The car man is still in for the stint on Easter Monday at 09-11.

Got a bout of food poisoning on Friday evening - projectile vomiting, rigors, cold, loss of time-sense, etc.
Pretty sure this time around it was the same cause as previous - an e.coli infection from a contaminated water supply or tinned fish.
Took to my bed late on Friday night, spent as much time as I needed to feel better and when I finally crawled out of my pit, on Sunday morning, Saturday had just gone
    Never to be seen again.
Still couldn't keep anything down, even a couple teaspoons of yoghurt came back up, but I recalled some nursey advice from previously - boiled water. A pint of boiled water.
    Surprising how well that works.
    Steadily improving, but flamin' weak.
There is one consolatioon, so far I've shed a couple of kilos but I don't think this episode will have me being at death's door after a week or two and my GP (who was a switched-on honest type) telling me I'd only have a fortnight to live if my bloodwork kept coming back as it was. (That was a Luton and Dunstable Orspital - possibly the worst place for dragging you back from the brink I've ever been in).

Ascertaining de cause is important if it is a repeat episode. Gallbladder infection, pancreatitis, IBD, being obvious ones to eliminate. But de way hotspittle A&Es are now we are put off attending. Around this time last year I had what is now known to be a suden progression in pre-existing MS, and had a bad seizure, and ought to have gone to A&E. However, the media, including Liveline, were repetitiously highlighting that we should not be presenting to public hospitals as they were not functioning, and to see alternatives. When I could actually hold a phone in my hand I should have dialled 112/999 but was put off by the messages from RTE, when I was one such case that needed the expertise. Going to a private hospital with no resident neurologist and a general consultant who subsequently let me down badly resulted in a delayed diagnosis and much distress.

I still intend to raise the matter on Liveline when a good opportunity arises.

I only get €20 per post from Recode Agency (the agency par excellence for talented talent) that garners a reaction. I have to take screenshots of my post and the reaction. I don’t get paid without a reaction, and I have to submit total annual earnings in my Form 11.

I know , that’s the usual slur when I state obvious facts.
if you have cause & effect data from actual scientific method testing I’d be delighted to retract.
(observation of a natural phenomenon and skipping past the hypothesis, independent , dependent variable testing and conjuring up a cause & effect relation is NOT the scientific method. It’s pseudoscience.)
