Lower back issues

    Hi all,

Suffering with lower back problems for the last 8 years. The first time was very intense. It was the night before i was going abroad on a holiday. Went to the jax in the middle of the night and reached for the flush burron and boom. Felt like a vice grips on my spine and i collapsed in a heap on the ground and couldn't move for a few hours. Obviously the holiday wss no fun. Had to get a wheel chair from checkin to the plane. I had sciattica then for 2 years after and then it gradually got better. I've had flare ups since then maybe once a year. This time I was doing some light work in the garden and the same. I've had an MRI scan that will be reviewed by a specialist in Santry sports clinic. I'm a little worried though because I'm almost better and i fear they may just say more physio. I'd nearly feel better if i was hobbling in like i was a few weeks ago.

How did you get on with your scan? I'm going for an MRI in a couple of weeks, have sciatic and lower back pain that means I can't sit for even 10 mins to eat.

I hope you've gotten some treatment to make you feel better by now.

Are you doing any exercises to strengthen your core? Pliates and the like. Swimming even. Doing these exercises is a life time thing though going forward

Just remember physios want to strengthen your core which is good but with bad backs the gentle approach is best. I could barely walk after my first visit to the physio I let him push me a little too much I worked through the pain and didn’t complain when hurting which he later told me was the worst thing I could do. But I was just trying to push myself to get fixed

you have to strengthen the entire body to cure lower back pain, esp the lower back itself. and increase general mobility.

that can be done through squats, deadlifts, reverse hyperextensions. focusing on breathing, bracing and having the proper torso positioning

Nurofen anti inflammatories are great for helping with lower back pain, when I get a flare up I struggle to walk but a few of them throughout the day and I'm doing much better.
