Hi @Boards.ie: Niamh Any timeline for the return of "followed forums" drop down? Also a "mark forum read" button in the forum? These are the biggest issues I have now that the topics drop down is back.

The ability to strike through, bold and italicise has been there from the start, but what about underline, change colour etc? Any options there?

My god what happened, too funny to be even mad about it. Boards blue seems to have gotten darker or is just me.

I think the lack of dark mode is frying your eyeballs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

Hard to see it changed very slightly I think. Some might be able to discriminate the colour differences better than others.

No specific timeline at the moment mossie but they have been listed as features that users really want to see soon as lots of people have asked for them, in particular the Followed Forums.

I think it's bit darker on the dropdown menu at the top but nothing else has changed.

    This!

This is so embarrassing at this stage. Is nothing being tested? How did this get past both Vanilla and Boards without being noticed?

ETA pic attached for reference. You can't scroll past Networking & Broadband in that menu cos it falls off the page.

Thanks we're aware of this and it should be fixed today. The menu was part of last night's update but wasn't supposed to be live until some tidying up was done on it. However it went live, some people were glad to have it back so we decided we'd get it fixed today rather than adding it, removing it and then putting it back up.

The update we had last night made the following changes:

    - timestamp on the homepage on desktop has been fixed, it was previously one hour out of sync

    - Digiweb removed from the footer as this was out of date information

    - Navigation menu added to the top bar - this is still being worked on as some lists are spilling past the confines of the screen and some forum names are too long to fit in the menu

    - Ads enabled - up to now there were no ads on mobile and very few on desktop, this has now been rectified and will ensure that we have an income of some sort.

The white space issued created by the update was rectified this morning and we're aware of Adblock causing issues at the top of the desktop screen for some users.

More next week, have a nice weekend all 🙂

@Boards.ie: Niamh Please add an hover delay to the top menu

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

    The dropdown is much darker.

No need for the navigation boxes on the pages. However this is how those menus should be styled and it shouldn't be changed no mater what, a tribute to who added it! It is fairly close to the old navigation also.

It's really bad to have lost the ability to unfollow threads using the little flag at the top (the one that goes from blue to red and back). Also, the buttons for 'My Threads' 'My forums' now only being about 10% visible on the landing page is very annoying! All this since the outage yesterday, and I guess we're stuck with it through the weekend:

I can now do a search on mobile and not have to Wade through posts that are 10 years old to find something relevant.

    Hi Niamh,

Thanks for the update. Just FYI, the forum timestamp is still one hour out of sync.

    Have a good weekend :)

    On Desktop

In the My Bookmarks pages and Discussions pages there are 3 columns, Last Post, Replies and Views.

If you click on the Boards logo however, there are only 2 columns, Latest Posts and Posts.

    Why so?

Oh, is that what those random tiny gaps in the middle of threads were? Those tiny .mid-ad .ad-container div's which have been very promptly whisked away by a minor Stylus tweak?

Next you're going to tell us that there's going to suddenly be promoted posts inserted into the forum listings disguised as regular posts, á la Reddit.

The thing they should take from Reddit is gilded posts where a couple of euro go to boards and the post gets some styling to show it got some love.

And I'll keep saying this every few months because it's the perfect site for it. A mature userbase that's used to the thanks system and understands the need for money to keep the site going.

Of course boards.ie would naturally think "we can't build that into vanilla" but you don't have to. You just layer it on top with some JS.

Is that because it was launched untested again?

    Shush...

    1. Front page the tabs are hidden under the header.
    2. When I get to the "My Forums" page it seems that bold / unbold has stopped working.

And the bookmark tab thing on a thread. The top boards.ie banner has just overlayed it all.

As a temp fix to find 'my threads' hover the cursor under discussions (as s/shot) and click, it goes to My threads

Is the site gone glacially slow for anyone else tonight?

Pages taking an absolute age to load.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,453 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

It's been noticeable slow loading for me on Desktop for a couple of days now.

The size of the adverts placeholders is not helping I'd imagine

    Extra slow tonight.

Even at normal times, it’s the slowest website I’ve encountered on my travels across the web. It’s crazy slow. Those milliseconds count :pac:

Nice, thanks. All the links, however, redirect to https://www.boards.ie/profile instead.

Yeah me too, big ugly fuppers in amongst threads. Interestingly since they announced ads were back I've actually had less ads. This page has two little grey blocks that says advertisement, with no advert. I don't have an ad blocker turned on, laughably to try and support this mess of a site.

This is the way with boards these days. Situation Normal All Fupped Up

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
