The phrase obviously isn't banned so if it's written properly.

Poster punctuation must be the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,378 ✭✭✭archfi

No punctuation used, full phrase used in context on a thread about the latest political event that matches the unholy four word sequence.

See how ridiculous it all is?

For clarity - the two (I think) posts were manually deleted not filtered.

Good idea. We definitely need a comprehensive list of banned words so that no outside websites can be referenced.

you say obviously without having seen the posts in question. you're as bad as the mods.

there were 4 posts deleted. yours, mine and two that replied to me. I didn't actually see the posts that replied to me. I received notifications that my post was quoted but the posts were deleted before I could look at them. Now would be a good time for @Boards.ie: Niamh and @Boards.ie: Odhran to look at this themselves. the mods have just made things worse.

I had no interest in the posts in question so, no I didn't read them. I was interested at the time it happened many decades ago.

My point is that somebody was able to post the words using proper punctuation therefore discussion of the historical events doesn't seem to be actually banned as some posters are claiming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,911 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

so how do you know they didn't have proper punctuation? It was four words separated with commas. what exactly is improper about that? you're talking through your arse.

Deleting posts without good reason, smacks of "cancel culture" and should not be tolerated!

BTW, I've not seen the posts either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭Mav11

Don't know when it happened but it's nice to see post numbering back. Well done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,382 ✭✭✭FFVII

What is this cancel culture everyone is on about??

Lads, they've been deleting stuff like this on here for over a decade. I had to stop reading this forum years ago due to rage quit. Only came back for the bullsh1t drive by updates that come 6 weeks late.

Nearly time to leave it again. Cesspit of the net this forum.

George Orwell wrote a book about it, you may have heard of it.

A lot of stuff is deleted for legitimate reasons, racist, libellous etc, but deleting stuff simply because you disagree with the content is unethical in an open society, that openness seems to be slipping away each and every year.

A few small updates today, you may have noticed some of them already as they were done late Friday/over the weekend.

'Mark all viewed' has been removed from the mobile burger menu

'Top Forums' link has replaced it on the mobile burger menu

Max image size has been increased again to 1084px x 1084px to accommodate the Photography forum

On another note can we keep the topic on specific, actiobale issues with the new site please? It's easier to note features that are requested or broken or whatever else that way.

@ohnonotgmail 'my post has been deleted' type posts should go in Help Desk but I will look at this one tomorrow. If you could PM me the thread link, that would help, thanks.

Still no update on this abomination? (I know some people love it but lots of us hate it too). Major issue

If you post in a thread it should automatically be a bookmarked or followed thread like before.

Simple. If you want people to keep coming back and engaging in threads its the most obvious feature you should "bring back". God knows why you got rid of it in the first place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,218 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

You could turn it off before, and it stayed off by default if you did so. That's what I, and others, want back!!

But it is back. It's an inelegant way of doing it but it's there and works well for people who just want to automatically follow threads they post in.

Same. But it’s not too many “hassle” to uncheck the star icon after a post, on the mobile site anyway.

The point is we didn't have to do that on the old site, so this change has negatively affected the boards experience for a lot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

Well it is a minor issue, imo. But I fully support having it as an option in preferences as it is a personal preference. It really isn't a big deal having to uncheck it for posts you do not want to bookmark when you comment though, literally take less than half a second to uncheck. A tad bit dramatic calling it an abomination. Neither love or hate it myself however it is useful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,093 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

I'd equally say it would be no big deal to turn it on for threads you want bookmarked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,817 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

That’s as may be but we’re on the new site now so there’ll be a few little things we’ll have to get used to.

I just, either, untick the box when posting or uncheck the star after. It’s a very minor “inconvenience” and becomes less, and less, of one the more I post.

It’s really just a matter of getting used to the new site and it’s little differences.

Well no because that would affect more users, the whole point of the checkmark is so it automatically bookmarks the discussion. Not being bookmarked by default was a major issue for many users. However you'd be hard pressed finding lots of users that want it turned off by default but they do exists which is why it should be personal choice with a setting in preferences that can toggle the feature globally for individual users (which if added should leave it turned on by default - anyone wanting to turn it off as default would need to go into preferences and toggle it once that is)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,218 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

A lot of the other issues reported here (many of which have been addressed) are just as, if not more, minor imo. We all use boards differently and different things matter to different people. This matters to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,382 ✭✭✭FFVII

theirs only 3 of ye doing that mad carry on. For a change I'm not surprised the feature doesn't exist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,093 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

You know how many use or don't use it based on this thread? Good man yourself There are three brown horses in a field here but I told my grandchild I believe not all horses are brown.

And you may think it's mad but we all use the site differently.

Just back to the site after a period away. I'm going to list some things I don't like off the top of my head. They've probably already been mentioned but some of them are part of what made boards great.

    • Thanks count. On the old boards, you can see the usernames. This meant you could easily see how much thanked it was. Often posts with loads of thanks made a statement with the amount of thanks it got. Now, I have to look for the thanks count and it's just a number. Before, i could quickly scroll through a thread and see from the side of my eye highly thanked posts and give them a read. A post with large number of thanks stood out and conveyed the thoughts of many. The thanks count currently displays as 0 on threads. I'm sure you're aware.
    • Post timing format. It needs the full date and if it's today it needs to say Today and in 24 hour format. The current format leads me to spend a split second working out when exactly the post was made. Maybe I'll get used to this change though
    • On the homepage, I often hover over threads to see if I wanna dip into them. Now, there are often formatting tags which renders hovering to preview pointless. Far too messy. And feedback forum doesn't have the hover to view option for some reason.
    • Similarly, when I viewed the last post on an old thread and go back to the homepage or forum page, the thread would turn "unbolded". This meant it was easy for me to see what threads had new posts. This is a big loss in functionality for me.
    • Page numbering in threads needs to be at the top of the page, not under the original post.
    • On forums where threads are listed, I would prefer the page numbering to have some kind of divide.
    • The search function is really really poor imo. I was a massive fan of having the search bar omnipresent. Now I have to click the magnifying glass and do a search. I used the search function all the time to browse forums and to search for users. Now I can't do that. Before, I would simply enter television and it would auto prompt the television forum. Similarly, can't find users easily anymore.
    • The number of logged in members and guests is missing.

An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
