purchasing a 1973 boat in NI - Vat implications?

As the subject says I am looking at buying a yacht (Westerly Longbow) in NI and bringing it down south. It is 1973 so predates VAT and the agent says it is not an issue (but he is the one selling the boat!) I am concerned if I were to sail it to the UK or Europe in the future is there implications in terms of paperwork or…
