Adele is a dead cert for Slane I'd say. She is playing Hyde Park next year.

Thats a one off I'd say.

She is reported to be doing a stint in Las Vegas, she might do a World tour in 2023 when Covid has passed.

Pretty sure there was an interview done by Henry or alex, maybe around the 40th anniversary where they stated they would be sticking to guitar based rock bands.

I’d say she will tour next year. Most artists like to release new music and tour asap then take a break. Can’t see her just starting a tour in 2023.

Also can’t see Coldplay playing Slane. They are doing 3/4 nights at most venues in Europe. They have 6 nights at Wembley. I would say Coldplay will have 2/3 nights at Croke in 2023 when they announce their 2nd Europe leg.

i see the logic, no gigs in Spain, Italy, Austria, Portugal, or any where in the Nordic countries, announced so far, allthough there is a suspicious 15 day gap in between Paris & Belgium, which could see more announcements on the way.

I don’t think, i’ve ever seen an act announce 3 gigs, at the massive Olympic Stadium in Berlin, 4 in Stade De France, or 6 in Wembley, for that matter.

yeah think Ireland was the second leg on the last tour as well

If there are to be 2 Slanes next year and coldplay isnt one of them wonder who it will be?

Foo fighters are in UK till early July, a possible candidate.

Adele - don’t know, only Hyde Park announced thus far.

The Weeknd - he’s about to announce a big stadium tour, after he cancelled all the sold out- indoor gigs, as he had a rethink, and wants to do something bigger.

Bruce - who knows, theres really only a few nights at the RDS and maybe around the country, or 1 /2 in Slane, for him to play.

Pearl Jam, also around in Europe touring next summer, would they fill it ? With good support, maybe

Coldplay are trying to do as little moving from city as possible to reduce the carbon footprint.

Its a bit of a fallacy really as now alot of fans have to travel further to see the band thus increasing their carbon footprint.

I'd imagine if the sums were done the net carbon footprint might end up higher than a normal tour where they play 1-2 gigs in each city.

Coldplay could sell out Slane certainly (And are currently planning on touring in 2022)

The Weekend. Would need another big act with them. The Weekend is big but usually an act such as this would have another large "support" act with a similar following.

Aerosmith? I wouldn't think they would be big enough for Slane. TBH, I'd say they would have an issue filling Aviva.

Olivia Rodrigo. I don't know who that is but then I am very very old so cannot comment :D

Adele or Taylor Swift would also sell out Slane without issue. I know there was issues with Taylor Swift selling tickets last time but remember she played many dates (3 days in Aviva I think?). With extra dates being announced as they went on. She would sell out Slane no problem. Adele would see out Slane instantly (Probably quicker than even Coldplay).

Is Post Malone here anywhere next year yet?

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

Dunno. But Post Malone and The Weekend WOULD sell out Slane...... But it would be very messy and a bad look. The younger demographic would look bad because you would see a lot of drunken 15-year-olds falling about the place on TV and would be reminiscent of the downfall of Oxegen.

I believe that, rightly or wrongly, Slane will always stick to a more MOR rock/pop venue or the slightly more.... um...... "mature" crowd 😀. I mean in general, people over 23 or so.

I'm not for one minute doing the "Damn kids" thing. I have seen plenty of people in their late 30s or more, absolutely sh*tfaced at Slane. (I saw one woman at The Rolling Stones fall over and crack her head open off a barrier on the way IN to Slane). Just saying that it would not be a good look as you know that's what would be shown on TV

Are we expecting an announcement for Slane 2022 in December?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,664 ✭✭✭fafy

I would expect an announcement, before mid December, possibly earlier even

It's depressing people are talking about the likes of Post Malone and whoever else. Slane used to be a showcase for the biggest band of the day, and since 2010, I couldn't name one real band of any mainstream significance who's come through.

An interesting one would be Damon Albarn. His second solo album coming out. His name wouldn't sell it out, but he stopped being a household name on purpose with Gorillaz. But if i was promoted right, a blend of his Blur, Gorillaz, solo, other work, it could be a huge hit. After all, he's the only man to headline Glastonbury two years in a row.

Can't seem to find anything online as I said earlier in the thread, but apparently Albarn and Mountcharles had a big falling out over who'd pay the stage fee's for the cost of Gorillaz holograms if they were to play. And subsequently declined Blur to play when there was interest when they reformed in 09. But it would be great to get Damon Albarn to Slane in any of his incarnations imo. The last great songwriter still on top of his game

"Slane used to be a showcase for the biggest band of the day,"

And then you nominate Damon Albarn ??

Mountcharles is a PR face for MCD's event, so that story is almost certainly bollocks.

MCD (or LN/FR these days) run Slane.

Albarn is playing small hall shows throughout the UK in the likes of Norwich and Coventry. He has no interest whatsoever in playing Slane. He not about that life anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭Burty330

See, he cut out middle men and the big music promoters / venues who would sell tickets for €120 or more.

    Oasis or blur

Coldplay wernt mentioned here in the 1st 2 pages of the thread - They would fill slane 3 times over off the reviews of their last croker gig alone - a concert I wasnt bothered about but was absolutely raging I missed afterwards.

Green day would fit the bill and I believe they would fill it no problem with the slane factor.

    Adele would fill it.

    Ac/dc would be super.

    My personal favourite would be

    Coldplay, supported by

Snow patrol, and the Prodigy for the craic!

Well, as Keith Flint is dead, I doubt it. I'm assuming they are done?
