First game i missed all year so was looking forward to the highlights last night, it was nice of the Sunday game to show 5 of the 46 scores from yesterday, could they not show a few more of the games not on TV?

Or a 2nd highlights show Monday with a bit more from these games. Clubber will show games from all grades but we have no access to lenister championship games.

There should be a separate hurling and football show it’s to much to be trying to cram into a few hrs and last night they flip flopped from Munster to Leinster to football

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Village87

Yes i agree. Why did they not have a show Saturday? There was some very good games on Saturday in hurling and football that RTE did not show live which is fair enough but there should be a Saturday night game at 10pm if the games finish late. They then try cram all of this into the Sunday game which is now a complete information overload. RTE are still showing the Magners league in Rugby which is pure dog ****, teams playing there 2nd teams every Saturday.

The hurling needs to start on the May bank holiday as the premier league and rugby is nearly over. So they can then show Saturday night games live, and give the GAA its own window. They can surely find 2/3 weekends to free up to make this happen and keep the club calendar as it is. My head is fried trying to keep up with all the matches coming up.

Gaa plus coverage from what I saw of it last weekend when they showed the Tipp v Limerick game was miles better than RTE. They (RTE)have the same old tired format and panels that would put you to sleep. The other crowd are full of energy and look like they are actually enjoying what they are doing. Sunday Game crowd have had it all their own way for years and it has gone stale.

Exactly or and 8:30 hurling show and 9:30 football show on a Sunday or vice versa no excuse in this day and age

Have your combined show with highlights similar to tg4 maybe with just commentary if needs be

RTE had a Saturday highlights show last year which they must have dropped or it won't start until the football All-Ireland group stages begin. The highlight package for our match was dreadful, less than 90 seconds of footage. There's too much time spent talking on the Sunday Game. The show is trying to do too much, it's trying to analyse matches in detail while also doing state of the GAA style addresses. Just show more match footage on the Sunday Game or put decent highlights on YouTube

As an aside RTE has lost the rights to the Provincial rugby competition from next season so you won't have to watch that on RTE again for a few years

Gaa plus should consider their own Monday night highlights show. It would enhance the subscription offering to tap into some of the podcast market and augment it with video based highlights and analysis.

I could be wrong but nearly sure there is a midweek highlight show on GAA+

Some interesting matches ahead. Forgetting about munster for a minute and concentrating on our own neck of the woods, wexfords visit to pearse stadium next weekend will be one you feel they have to win to try and stay afloat in the leinster championship. Similar to galway, both teams aready losing, a loss for either will put them under serious pressure. Dublin will beat antrim in Belfast, kilkenny should take offalys scalp in nowlan Park. This would mean the visit of Dublin to nowlan park the following week would put the victors all but in the leinster final on 8 points. A win for galway against wexford would mean wexford, after presumably beating offaly, would only be on 4 points welcoming kilkenny to wexford Park. Even a win for wexford there might not guarantee them in 3rd place. Dublin and Galway could jostle places also.

Bar a calamity Kilkenny are winning Leinster. Dublin , Wexford and Dublin are as bad as each other. Some of the goals coughed up in the Galway and Wexford matches the weekend were of a very poor standard. We just need to get ourselves ready for Leinster final and AI semi final. The rest of Leinster are very very poor

I wouldnt be that confident. I think we are worthy favs. I think we need our best 15 fit and available for the later stages of the competiotion. With the likes of Tj and Mullen out it will hopefully give a few in the forwards a chance to get some game time in. To win an AI we need 5 players coming off the bench that have an influence on the game. We have been lacking that as much as poor calls on the sideline.

As for the AI no team has stood out IMO. Question marks about them all. I think Gal v Wex will be a massive result for whoever wins it. I think the KK v Dub game will be to see who gets into the final. Munster will be interesting. Cork are Favs ATM IMO but they will need to improve. The Clare v Tipp game will probably be the end of the road for the loser. Im looking forward to Waterford V Limerck. Is there still a kick in this great Limerick team. I think there is and they will show it on Saturday.

Yes i agree about the latter parts outside Leinster but in Leinster Kilkenny win and get themselves ready for the semi final, get everyone fit and peak for the All Ireland semi final. The only problem in Leinster is we are not getting enough competitive matches, what are we going for 7 in a row ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭Butterbeans

Going for 6 Leinsters on the trot, Wexford won it in 2019. Limerick going for 7 Munsters

Dublin looked to have a bit about them at the weekend in fairness. Still think we should be beating them comfortably, but they should, at the very least, put up a better show against us than in the last leinster final. They're going in the right direction though, which is good to see.

Balloney, respect for the opposition is not lost on most of us here. We will get plenty of it from both Dublin and Wexford and likewise Galway if we meet them again in Leinster. Offaly are finding the going tough and it will probably take another year or two for them to achieve their potential.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Village87

The Wexford match will be a dead rubber for us, as we will be probably guaranteed a Leinster final at that stage. A Dublin team with Sutcliffe not playing and the full back gone playing football, his name slips me. 2 excellent players, so hard to see how Dublin are in better shape this year. Let's be realistic, the biggest concern for us is going to Croke Park for an All Ireland semi final untested. We still have a big problem at 6.

The win against galway the first day really set kk up for the leinster championship. Kk are a little bit ahead of opposition in leinster but like anything on any given day we could get bet. Unfortunately like last year a number of players picked up injuries the first day out. The good news is Mullen and blanch are expected to take part in training this week and will hopefully be back soon. It looked like complacency set in last Sunday after a good start but this has being a common theme the last few years where they just go asleep during games. It happened against limerick already in the league a big lead was whittled back to 4 or 5 points. The defence was very good against galway but antrim cut through the middle at ease and its something to look at for the next day..The final score probably flattered kk although antrim second half performance was poor. Kk are very experienced when it comes to leinster. They know themselves when to peak. We arent going to see peak hurling every game during this round robin. It's about not picking up injuries and trying to build a panel.

Dublin looked very ordinary against offally last week. Their manager is a shrewd operator and like waterford I think having a manager from the county will benefit both teams. Another factor against wexford was playing in the neller. We had a few lucky escapes up there the last few years, even last year we were lucky but a few short weeks later in croke Park it was carnage. Dublin lack belief against kk and if they could get something against kk in Nowlan Park it would be a big statement. Some of wexfords defending the other day was shocking and they really struggled under the high ball. Liam ryan tightened things up a bit when he came on but they are trying to mind him because he missed so much. The loss of eoghan o donnell will really be felt against better fowards. Wexford haven't got them but they were able to create chances. They are so dependent on chin its scary. So much goes through him even if he isn't putting up big scores. His ability to win puckouts and frees but he just hasn't the help. They will really struggle if he gets injured or when he retires.

Offally looked to have ran out of steam against a hurt galway team who usually produce a good performance or two after a stinker. Playing week in and week out for this offaly team isnt simple and it wont get any easier heading for nowlan park next. Daithi Burke back at full back really steadied things but cathal mannion excellent again along with young molloy corner foward.

It's all about picking up the two points and not picking up injuries. The positives so far are the midfield are working well. This has being such a troublesome position for kk a long time now. Finnon was quite the other day but he gives us something different and is a excellent range free taker. Another good performance from Stephen donnelly. Eoin cody looks like he has really being practising the frees which is also a positive. The negatives are injuries especially Shane Murphy but thankfully it isn't cruciate but hopefully he can get back to action soon, john donnelly is still trying to get up to speed after missing so much but matches will bring him on. With the injuries we are getting cody experience on the frees and Stephen donnelly is genuine contender for a starting position. We will need everyone back fit and hurling well and a few subs to bring on if we are to have a good year.

Some posters seem to think this is the KK of old we’re far from it and at this stage we have lost that fear factor so I wouldn’t be discounting anyone beating us and it’s just arrogance to think that way. Now I certainly think we’re well capable of getting to and maybe beyond a Leinster final but anything can happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Village87

My argument is that Leinster is a very poor standard with the exception of Kilkenny who are good. Galway could not get out of a bad Leinster last year, the challengers in Leinster are of poor quality. My biggest disappointment from the Galway match is that we did not learn anything, and it might be too late when we are under the cosh in Croke Park in All Ireland semi final day. Riche Reid has been a defensive flaw for years and teams target him and go after Deegan for pace. We seemed to move on from Richie Reid at the start of the league but have reverted back to him seemingly ignoring his defensive frailties. That is my biggest concern about Leinster now, we not being tested enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 738 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

I get your point and its valid. I think if KK play to their best they will beat any team in Leinster. But if they are slightly off and the likes of Dub Wex or Gal are on top of their game they can beat KK. This is not a great KK team. Musnter has been the same for the last 6 seasons with Limk winning. Behind them it has been like Leinster competitive, Traditionally Munster teams are stronger than Leinster with the exception of KK so i would expect 3 Munster and 1 Leinster team in the semi finals.

What KK need if they get to the semi by winning Leinster is their full 15 players fit and 5 players that can be effective off the bench. With players missing Lyng has a chance to give minutes to players and these players need to stand up and say they deserve a match day jersey. Lyng needs to get those players fighting like Cody did for that jersey in training and the games left in Leinster. IMO Dub will give us a game but Wex will throw everything including the kitchen sink at us like they always do. So hopefully we get 2 good games there and another in leinster and win them all.

I know what you are saying and I don't discount anyone beating us but I don't think we should fear anyone.

It's probably the most confident I have been in the last 5 years that we go all the way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Well me 89, I would be confident enough this year I do see signs of improvement but I would be very cautious as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭Marrooned

Oh my god what a **** show tonight in the Munster U20 matches.Cork v Waterford, blaas brutal.Clare v Limerick. Limerick brutal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

It's surprising alright they've gone back to Richie Reid at 6 when it's fairly obvious he's a weak link. Wouldn't be against him starting at wing back or midfield though.

Doubhtful if offaly will play their 20s against us, they're playing dublin Monday coming and if they win play kilkenny in the leinster semi final 4 days after the senior match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 174 ✭✭neverbet

I would play Carey centre back as he holds the middle best but Reid has to be in defence for me , look at our scorelines since his return. His fingerprints are on so many of them. All our other half backs take far too long to deliver the ball and the quality nowhere near as good as Richies .The balance is something Lyng and his management need to get right. Looking on the bright side if our injuries come right, Shane Murphy,Jordan Molloy, Stephen Donnelly and Harry Shine all show signs of seriously stepping up to the plate giving us competition for places and the strength in depth we have been lacking for a few years now. Luke Hogan also looks to be getting there.

Serious Trump like Tariffs in Nowlan Park, two bottles of water and two bars of chocolate 12 euros, Corrigan Park very same items one week later 4 euros.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,162 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Agree with all of that , I posted here during the league about Deegan and Blanchfield taking too much out of the ball before getting their heads up and Reid has definitely made a difference with his deliveries into the forwards.

I’ve also called for Carey at six numerous times on here because for me he’s our only natural centre back. I agree that Reid has to be accomadated but we can’t have teams running straight through our defence the way Antrim did the other day, better teams will take the chances they missed on the day.

KK minor team released, a few changes made which hopefully will strengthen the panel. Also moved from Parnell park to O’Tooles in Crumlin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭KK36

Some big calls made with the lads dropped from the team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭Sir Chaz

are they dropped though or, to use that premier league phrase, are they taking the opportunity to rotate a bit?

Assuming head to head applies, I think the minor game is a dead rubber? Kilkenny guaranteed to finish first and Dubs guaranteed to finish bottom.

Dubs are not without a chance of causing an upset in that U20 game. If not it'll be a big call for the Offaly Senior management the following weekend.
