This might be a really silly question given that PTSB do not yet offer Google pay but I'll go ahead anyway...

I have already saved my PTSB credit card details to Gpay and use it for online purchases.

I have downloaded the Google pay app, if I add my PTSB credit card details, will it not work if I 'tap' my phone at a contactless card point?

Edit: this may also be the wrong forum!

    Well that's that. Thank you.

PTSB previously announced Google Pay would be introduced in the first half of 2021. Asked them today and they said they still had no firm timelines..

As a workaround with Ptsb I use Curve card, you link your Debit/Credit card to the virtual Curve card and then set up Gpay using Curve.

Its worked flawlessly for nearly a year for me.

Probably will link my debit card directly when Ptsb launch Gpay

I got sick of waiting for PTSB and got an N26 card instead. Yes it is another bank account but the lowest tier is perfect for me (free every month) as a second account and works great with Google Pay. Money transfer takes a day or less usually and they have a webapp and very good android app.

They'd have to get into your phone first?

It's a requirement for Google pay isn't it?

If you want to use it as a payment option that you must set a screen lock.

I don't think you can enable Google Pay without having a lock on your phone, I know on my watch I had to enable security to use it anyway.

but what if a thief was to god forbid get lucky with your screen pin, can you not have a second PIN for google pay as well?

There are over 9000 4 digit numbers, so they'd need to get very lucky. On top of that your pin can be more than 4 digits if you want. If you increase it to 6 digits there are about 900,000 possible combinations.

There are exactly 10,000. You can use the same digit more than once. 😉

Its the same or lower level of risk as losing your actual bank card. Youre overthinking this.

Probably be a lot better off stealing the wallet then rather than the tech 😁
