Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know if there is a Mass Vaccination Centre operating anywhere in Louth. I know a lot of people who have heard nothing about vaccinations yet and they are in their mid sixties. Yet on the vaccination thread on this site I am reading about people in their fifties being vaccinated already in other areas! Initially it was said there would be one in Dundalk and I also heard somewhere that they would open one in Drogheda too. All very slow here!

There's one in the Fairways complex outside Dundalk, my mother (late sixties) got her first dose there about 10/12 days ago. She registered online and that was where she was advised to go.

I wonder then are the people from Drogheda having to wait until a centre opens there. It is a bit beyond a joke at this stage.

Have they registered on the website?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 318 ✭✭muckisluck

Well I have spoken to several people who have all registered more than two weeks ago. None are particularly stressed about it but when we start hearing about the 50 somethings being called it does make us all wonder. I thought vaccination was essential for the older age groups because they are the most vulnerable.

Some 64 year olds were done in the Fairways on Friday.

I'm 62 in Dundalk but no word yet.

There are only 40 odd MVCs in the whole country and it's quite an assumption there would be two in a county of 130K people. GPs and pharmacists will be involved from next month.

droghedalife.com reported today that DIFE, currently used to vaccinate healthcare workers, is opening to the public, possibly this week.

I don't think its that anyone is making that assumption. It just seems that the system in Louth is getting through the age cohorts very slowly compared to other areas.

Registered over 2 weeks ago and still nothing , I’m 62 and have friends in their late 50’s being done in Dublin , Kildare and Cork !!!

Know a lot of people in this situation. Early 60-odd and waiting, yet 50s in same town getting theirs. A few were told it was because of the whichever vaccine each person was getting and the availability of said vaccine.

Not sure I believe that, but hey ho. Hopefully you get called soon.

    Annoying

I'd a text from my GP to say that their practice in Drogheda is still trying to work through the over 70s

What is going on at all? I would have hoped all the over 70s are finished everywhere by now. So much for looking after the vulnerable. Did the north east get a lower supply of vaccines per head than other areas?

62 and got a text this morning for an appointment in MVC Dundalk tomorrow .
All over 70s I know in Dundalk have been done.

Our practice said that they are only getting a small number of vaccines on a bi-weekly basis so I suppose if you think of that, they are probably having to use those now for the second dose for the over 70s

62 from Drogheda , just got txt for AZ vaccination in Dundalk in the morning , delighted !!

Had mine in Dundalk today, 35 minutes from getting out of the car to driving away again. Very slick despite seeming busy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭Boxcar_Willie

Had mine this morning in the Fairways , again in & out in less than 30mins , plenty of staff , very efficient , and really well organised .

Anyone got an appointment for next week yet. Im hoping for Monday or Tuesday but with the cyber attack Im now wondering will that happen. I think I'm now more stressed about waiting on the vaccine than actually getting Covid.

I know five with appointments for Monday. The attack had no impact on the vaccination programme.

Seen a few here saying 30 minutes between arrival and departure in clinic and fair play but wondering if anyone can give a total walkthrough of the procedure from start to finish and what you're told to do after you've got the jab?

I'm a bit younger than most posting here but would just like to know what to expect when i do go for it.

I can only speak about the Fairways centre.

Security at the car park will ask your time slot and direct you where to park.
Go to the entrance where your text will be checked and your name marked off a sheet . You don’t need your phone after this .You are then directed to a nurse who will ask some basic questions.
From there you wait socially distanced to register. When a booth is free you will be told which one to use.
You will be again asked your name and to hold your ID up to the screen , details are checked and you give consent to receive the jab.
You will then be shown where to wait until a vaccination booth is free , and accompanied to your booth.
Vaccinator will again check name , dob and a few other questions about allergies etc . You then receive your jab and are given a vaccination card.
Next you move on the observation area where the staff will show you to your seat , after 15 mins you are told it’s ok to leave if feeling ok.
Whole process from walk-in to walk-out is about 30 mins , and that was at a busy time .

That is so frustrating, given that lots of people are waiting for an appointment. I've been registered for 22 days and counting, still waiting for a date (age 60). Meanwhile, some parts of the country are vaccinating 51 year olds in the MVCs.

Same here Gipi. Aged 60, registered for 3 weeks now and still no call up. It seems a bit self-defeating to have to ring up and enquire especially when you hear of people getting it and they younger. Are the HSE teams losing control?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭Boxcar_Willie

Might be worthwhile opening up a stand-by queue on the day to prevent vaccines getting wasted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭gipi

People on the "have you had a vaccine" thread have reported that they didn't get an appointment text, and only found out about the appointment by logging into their account. Maybe this explains some of the no shows?

There seems to be some hold up with those aged 60. I know 4 who are 60 and all waiting since the first day of registration. They are doing those in their 50s with Pfizer so maybe they're waiting on AZ supplies.

I hear that healthcare workers were getting their 2nd jabs in DIFE this morning - perhaps that explains the delay for the general public.

Heatlthcare workers & vulnerable have 2 days a week.
They work through the age groups on the other days.

Explanation for the large number of no shows in Drogheda - people had already been vaccinated!

I got a text today to tell me (51 years old) to go to the Helix (DCU) next week for the J&J vaccine.

    Happy days!

Half of Drogheda up in The Helix yesterday!

Apart from the travel issue (which doesn't bother me), it is a very slick set up.

Enter DCU at Main Entrance from Collins Avenue. Turn right at the roundabout just inside the entrance. You will be guided to the (free) carpark on the right.

Out of the car. A two minute walk. Queue up. Show text message of appointment.

Guided into the Helix where staff at the ticket desk will register you. Queue up for a medical attendant.

A few Qs and then your vaccine. One shot J&J vaccine. Lovely!!

I didn't even notice the injection and no side effects after or today.

    In/out in 20 minutes.

Yes I got my 2nd AZ last week, I'm a health care worker, some people I work with are still waiting to be called they are at 16+ weeks now so should get a call this week. They want to reduce the wait to 8 weeks between AZ jabs but it will take a little time to manage this.

I was talking to someone who worked in DIFE yesterday they were administering Pfizer to the over 45's and will be doing the same on Monday.

DIFE is a small centre so that's why people are still being sent to larger centres just to get through everyone as quickly as possible.

I think the plan is to open DIFE on weekends but this may not happen until July, they were only open yesterday to catch up because they weren't open on Monday because if the bank holiday.

I hope the longer opening in July will help get the 16 to 30 age group done.

I had my first jab this morning in Dundalk, very efficient from start to finish, staff great, very friendly and helpful.
I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment, straight in the door and injection done in no time, 15 minutes sit down before leaving, out the door and home.

Roll on number 2 jab !
