I am sure that most of Ireland would have supported neutrality in 1939. In terms of racism though, would an alien visitor coming to Earth in 1939 report that Nazi Germany was the world's most racist country?

Think about Jim Crow, the British Empire ( including Rhodesia and South Africa), British controlled India, and the French Empire. it was a war between White Supremacists, in the Northern Hemisphere.

I heard they were going to build it in Clontarf but the locals objected. Something about the geese. Worried they might hit one of the planes when they are a shooting them.

Mr Hitler has the right idea, a measure of socialism yes, but allow the capitalist to do what he knows best, making a profit, so the worker can in fact be paid, and the nation excited by grand new ventures both at home and abroad, spreading our culture to places that have not had the benefit of it yet.

I don't totally disagree with either of you, now that Mr. Hitler and Mr. Stalin are getting along so well, any form of socialism will probably be good for the people, a bit of friendly competition never hurt anyone. But I have to say, this Neville Chamberlain fellow is turning out to be quite a genius, don't you think? Who else could have brought a peace agreement back from such a threatening place as Germany today, but I feel that it is all bluster, at his core, Mr. Hitler is a peaceful sort who seems to enjoy his good life in the Alps and the company of a pretty girl and a friendly pooch. He's known to talk tough but really, what harm has he done? Austria will be a better place now that it is within the Reich, and anyone would be lucky to live there.

I like to look further into the future. Let us imagine what life will be like a half century from now, in 1989. Mr. Hitler will likely have gone to his grave by then, but there is no shortage of good men available to run the Reich and I foresee it having even greater influence. The Soviet Union cannot do much better than they have done, and if they stick to it, I think they too will be at the very height of their possibilities. The British Empire on the other hand will probably just disappear entirely, the British people themselves will see the benefits of either communism or national socialism, or perhaps their own unique blend, and they will toss the monarchy, the Dominions will become republics and India will fracture into a hundred chaotic bits and pieces, easy pickings for the likes of Persia or perhaps Siam to take over. The United States will remain aloof and unconcerned with the world, and interesting things are sure to happen there, but I cannot see them becoming anything more than a sort of North American Sweden, a neutral country that everyone ignores.

The big change will be that people will have access to the Computing Machines that they now try to manufacture at the Colleges. These will eventually be available to everyone for a few minutes at a time, after which the people will go to relax at a teahouse or perhaps they will engage in a spirited game of chess. These Computing Machines will be able to do your financial sums in half the time it would take you normally. The drawback might be that they would have a tendency to explode with all the electricity and vacuum tubes, it's really beyond me but I don't entirely trust that sort of thing.

One final point, few people mention China in these pages, but it seems like a very promising place for an enterprising sort, and I would imagine that if capitalism can succeed anywhere, it might be China. I've been wrong in the past but I've put a lot of thought into all this, and one final idea, the Mohamedan world will probably convert en masse to some other faith, either the Hindu creed which is unfathomable to me, or perhaps Buddhism. This will take place around 1947 and lead to Mesopotamia becoming a world power.
