Anyone have an active number for them? Their app appears to be down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 245 ✭✭jdon72

Didn't get a phone call from them. Going to **** them out of it tomorrow. They fine me for late payments.

The 5 digit code is the code you have to enter every single time you log into the app. It's been this way for at least 12 months now. You used to have to enter 3 of your 5 numbers I think.

I don't trust it. Normal policy was 3 numbers. They should have text me for change of app. No phone service at the moment.

What possible issue would you have with entering your PAC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,439 ✭✭✭✭Purple Mountain

You always had 5 numbers but were asked for 3 at random
For a few months now, it's all 5 in order

The 5 digits have been needed for months

They issued messages before the change.

Got no message. Paid bills 2 months ago using 3 digit.

I just checked mine to see and it's working perfectly.

Just enter the five numbers. It's not really that much more difficult than entering three.

Starting a thread would be a lot harder for instance.

Got no text to state that. It's my money. Not going to give anything until talking to them.

    https://aib.ie/pac-faqs

This would be in the message section of the App as well so therefore you were notified.

    Three numbers doesn't give everything.

You’ve had to enter the 5 digits for the for the last few months. It was always 3 random Numbers. You would have received countless notification of this change if you were actively logging onto it. I know I was anyway

What I want to know is what idiot decided it was more secure to enter all 5 digits rather than seeking a random shuffle of 2 or 3? They should be given a swift kick up the hole.

There was constant pop ups on the app for weeks before every time I logged in telling me of the change.

They don't text you to tell you. As someone has already said it was in "my messages". I'm pretty sure I got a pop up to tell me too but that was logging in on a laptop not the app.

5 digits is no hardship and nothing dodgy op.

What if someone sent you a fake text though? How far down this rabbit hole do you want to go?

At a guess I'd say they probably had more failed log-ins and people getting confused by using three numbers, particularly those that might only log-in occasionally.

Perhaps not dodgy. Would still like to know from the horses mouth.

But if you accidentally give out the entire code to a scammer because that's exactly what the official app asks then they will have the entire code to get in, if it's asking last 2 or last 3 etc there's going to be a lockout after 3 wrong attempts. They have basically completely destroyed their own security, whoever thought of it should be shown the door.

No text. Sure if you got a text you'd definitely think it was dodgy!

    App is working fine.

I updated app a few months ago, notice has been on desktop log in site for months that they were upgrading security.

Not for me. It had been different.

OP - if you’re concerned about fraud then enter a random incorrect 5 digit code. Say 16945

    You won’t be scammed then.

Fair enough. Unless I talk to a person. Won't be exchanging 5 numbers.

Agreed, absolutely no other reason for the change. Personally don’t care. Quicker with the 5....and their app is superb.

As an aside, tried calling today to cancel his & hers credit cards that have sat in wallets for years unused. Ridiculous paying 240 per yr for the privilege. 1hr 12mins in a queue. Gave up.

    Alright, you broke me

It's a big conspiracy and everyone posting here is in on it

Never enter your 5 digits on the AIB App

Was changed to 5 numbers a couple of months ago when app updated, desktop also went to phone authentication.

That is fair enough. Simple phone call would solve it. Verification.
