No, they might be interesting though?

Have you got a link or example for us.

Our the song coach never heard Song of Silence.

All over YouTube recently from what I've seen... In relation to music mainly.... And it's #almost exclusively always "blacks" reacting to some song 15+ years old (not really any more recent than that)

#Don't normally see white folk "react" to stuff, but that's only going by what 'pops up' in feed...

Here's a guy reacting to Jackson Browne...

Have also seen one about a guy reacting to Irish sport - Camogie in this clip.

Think this guy loves Ireland :D ,

I've watched quite a few tbh, but mainly from specific people or based on specific bands. Jamel AKA Jamal in the video above, he does good ones. You can tell he's genuinely interested in what he's listening to rather than the reaction for teh likes. And leffesem is correct insofar as it's mainly black people. I couldn't believe that some people had never heard of Queen, or System of a Down, but most people probably think the same about bands they like, whereas I wouldn't know most of the bands that most other people like!

Some of them can be quite funny. Cant remember which lad it was, but their reaction to SOAD songs were hilarious to watch. Dudes just couldn't comprehend the excellence of what they were hearing. And it makes sense that most of these American people would have been surrounded by the stereotypical music one would stereotypically expect a black person in the US to listen to, thank you movies and music, that they wouldn't have known anything metal or pop or rock. Love reactions to Alestorm songs too.

One thing I can't stand is the ones who excessively pause what they're listening to. Listen and react, then talk at the end! Then I do enjoy the ones of Americans reacting to hurling, you also get a more diverse reactor with the hurling ones. Can take a bit of time to find one you don't want to murder, but each to their own. Plus, you'll probably only enjoy them if you know about whatever it is they're reacting to.

This lad isn't the worst, but gives a good reaction, especially to Diarmuid O'Sullivans epic shoulder on the Limerick player:

This lad is alright too, good facial reactions, but he does a lot of stopping/starting:

I doubt they are reactions. They probably watched the video 10 times, took notes on how to “react”.

I’d rather watch Gogglebox, and that’s saying something.

If you think Reaction Videos are a plague then here are two reacting to something else people sometimes think is a plague on humanity. The Rubber Bandits :)

Specifically as a shout out to leffesem - two black men replying to their song "Black man"

Totally down on Blindboy's dancing too they were :)

I've moved on to proaction videos: premature responses to things that haven't happened yet. Problem is no one makes them yet, so I have to proactively act like I've seen them.

It seems to be mainly African Americans doing the reaction vids. Why is that

Yeah I noticed that too B and there's a part of me would bet that the majority of their subs and viewers are White. Maybe I'm wrong here but for me there's an uncomfortable hint of the "oh look the "exotic types" are looking at White culture and media(and such reactions vids are almost always looking at White culture and media), ahh they're like people" stuff going on. Now you do see say Americans look at British TV stuff, but said Americans are usually White, but more widely it is usually Black folks, African Americans and Africans.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Except all the videos from the "woke" generation rushing to protect people from all kinds of psychological harm that no one anywhere seems to have actually suffered from yet :)

Probably because it’s acceptable for the cool black Americans to laugh at honkies with their rock music and funny ways. Like that lad posted before, listening to System of a Down. Will it pass the test, will a black man from the streets give it a thumbs up? Tune in to find out.
    Strange stuff.

No-one needs to know about Phil Collins. Let's just pretend he never happened, ok?

Ah now. Let’s not say things we can’t take back.
Phil was great before he went all mushy with his **** ballads. Him and him with Genesis...some great tunes.

Reaction videos are just slightly behind the "mime along to a comedy clip" videos. Absolutely zero talent and complete over egging.

    Thank you for asking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,184 ✭✭✭riclad

Its funny because rock groups are almost extinct ,
so gen z find it strange to watch phil collins or the eagles play music,
eg everyone had to be skilled at playing real guitars, drums etc
groups in the 80s rarely used samples .
the music sounds different from music released after 2000 when every album is made using computers and samples .
modern music sounds more clinical and bland.
Maybe black americans are more cool or more entertaining to watch .
theres a whole genre of comedy ,black americans laugh at white people.
I think reaction videos are good in that they might encourage people
to listen to music thats not just r and b,rap or whatever in the charts.
i think theres plenty of videos like react to star wars, game of thrones, marvel movies, featuring white people.
i think theres some gen z teens who have literally never heard old music like led zep, genesis, the eagles, as they listen to spotify, youtube music etc
fleetwood mac got in the charts recently because of a viral video on tik tok.

Case in point, these lads have a whole channel dedicated to it.

I watched one to see what it was about but it's not for me. But neither is unboxing videos and sure isn't the highest person on YT a 10 year old kid opening toys? I have friends who said their kids will sit there and rewatch those vidoes for hours. Aim low, you can't miss.

I'm in to progressive rock music (related to "prog" but not necessarily the same), and there are a lot of videos of people reacting to songs like Tom Sawyer by Rush. If all you've ever known is hip-hop, this kind of music can be pretty mind-blowing:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

In 1000 yrs, people will look back and mark these garbage videos as the end of the progression of our species. We peaked with The Internet, and the lovely stuff that came with it. But it unleashed a monster, so great, it halted all future improvements of the Homosapiens. And then we we regressed. So sad.

Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization. I say your civilization, because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization,...

It's reality TV, the same format as Gogglebox. Suppose it's no different watching people watch TV than watching people do other stuff.

That said, Gogglebox won a pile of awards and there's a dozen different version all over the world.

There's probably teens who don't know who led zeppelin, the eagles, credence clearwater, Neil Young are,
Even generation has its own music,
I don't think gen z hears any music before 1980
unless they are watching a reaction video or tik tok
These reaction videos are funny as they show gen z
reacting to old classic rock music and realising it's quite good or else totally different to the music they listen to now.
The funny thing about tik Tok is some old songs are becoming popular agaíin because they are in 1000s of tik Toks which feature a gimmick that looks funny on video
At least reaction videos show old styles of music can still have an impact on teens that just listen to hip hop and songs in the charts

Hey, when a child can earn nearly $30 million in one year just by opening toys on YouTube, people will try anything to get on that gravy train! The reaction videos themselves probably won't make them rich, but the ones who last usually end up with merch and deals with audio/visual/clothes etc sponsors. Some then branch out once they have a name. A YouTube career is viable, and a lot of the time very lucrative, but very hard to crack.

Seen quite a few, mostly reactions to metal bands.......Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer etc. Some are really entertaining, especially when you know the song and when there's a particular guitar break or epic singing part coming up. Some of the faces they pull are brilliant. Seen a few watching them hearing Bruce Dickinson holding a note for so long in Hallowed Be Thy Name. Mind you, I'm in awe as well listening to him too.
