My son wore new shoes for first time today but is complaining about them cutting his heel. I noticed that there is a seam at the heel. I compared his other shoes and runners, no seam. Am annoyed that I didn't know to check for this. He wore them a day. Have I any comeback? I've just realised he didn't get to walk around the room when fitted on Saturday but the appt was v rushed with 15min limit and I had 2 kids. I didn't think to insist on him walking in them but even if he had, I don't know if he would have noticed as he said they hurt when he runs.

Get the top of a sweeping brush(end of the handle) and spend a while pushing it, kneading, into the heel on the inside. That will soften then seam and hopefully make it softer.
On the other hand if the shoes arent visibly marked the shop may take them back

I had one spot on a shoe that drove me mad . A pharmacist recommended moleskin padding and it was fantastic . Yiu can cut a piece to suit and its so comfortable

A seam right up the back of the heel is normal for certain types of shoes, generally harder leather dress shoes. Which need to be extensively broken in.

I really doubt he'd have noticed it as an irritant even if he got to walk around the shop in them for a bit.

The two suggestions above should work.

No comeback as its not a fault. They simply need wearing in time. Possibly the laces need to be tied tighter as it would suggest the heel is moving.

Allow a few days for any soreness to heal and wear gently until they have broken in. Saddle soap to soften the heel or simple heel guards that stick inside the heel of the shoe are other options
