Current car is a 171 Tiguan with a 2.0l diesel (under powered and noisy) so I think I will always see a difference when moving to something like an X5 but I thought the X5 on battery was very good and when engine engaged felt better than the diesel 2.0 X5. Also considering a Jag F-Pace but preference at the moment is the BMW - different cars and driving experiences but I prefer the rear space in the beemer.

What size battery is in them out of interest?

113hp / 15.3KWh according to launch specs - i presume efficiency will degrade over time but the 162 car I tested was showing 27km of battery range available which (onpaper) is close to day one / brand new range.

New x5 is 3 l and 24 kWh battery, slow charging at 3 kw, the older versions are 2 l and 9 kWh battery.

9kWh is tiny and that is problem across the first BMW range, the same in the 3/5 series. Even my mate has a 11-12kWh battery in his Outlander and struggles to get 30km. You would be lucky to get 15-20km on a 9kWh

Have 4 kids myself and an x5. Love driving it but the back seats are too small. Next vehicle will be an XC90 or a q7. I think for very young kids the seats in the back of the x5 work but beyond 9/10 yo- it’s getting tight. Another vehicle with loads of space are the GL Mercs but not many around and expensive. I will miss the straight 6 when it’s gone. Nothing like it.

What height are the driver and front seat passenger that an x5 is too small in back seats for anything over a 10 year old? Are we talking 3rd row here?

Yup. 3rd row. It’s leg space is too cramped

I brought a T8 hybrid XC90 in last summer - hybrid was the choice due to higher spec and lower VRT than diesel by standard and preferred them overall compared to X5 and Q7.

IMO the spec of the interior in the XC90 is above the other two, thought the Q7 and X5 in particular are more dated. Any of them that are hybrid are in name only really, will get you somewhere between 20 and 30kms on electric, fine for pottering into local town etc but not much more than that.

When battery is gone it is thirsty enough which is understandable considering it is 2 litre petrol and a heavy machine. Get around 8L/100km or 35mpg on petrol only which isn't terrible. When fully charged it is 400bhp (320 petrol, 80 electric) and can move when it needs to, not a rocket or anything but fine for overtaking etc.

The hybrid X5 has a considerably compromised boot space apparently due to battery but from videos doesn't seem bad. XC90 is the only one that is 7 seater by standard I believe.

Just wondering how many have the middle booster in the XC90? looking at a T8 hybrid today and no booster, the guys said they are extremely rare but he is the sales person

They were an optional extra I think (family pack - 450 pounds extra from MY16 pricelist I have), I don't have one (afaik) and they seemed to be relatively uncommon when I was doing my searches last year in UK. My car is MY17.

I wasn't too bothered as you can just put a small booster in if needed as far as I know?

It also looks like you might be able to buy one from Volvo potentially as the price list has it as a single option also (130 pounds).

1 child here and still in car seat so not familiar with it.
