    Ok, i'll bite.

There is no way they should be paid the same as their men counterparts. There is nowhere as much interest in the womens game, nowhere as much sponsorship and therefore nowhere as much money.

    Skill is another different argument.

Ms Rapinoe is rather deluded IMO.

Male footballers are grossly overpaid as it is and i don't think it's sustainable for much longer. So an impossibility in the womens game at present.

If womens football doesn't bring in the same revenue for clubs as mens football, how are womens football clubs supposed to pay female players the same as male players

Is she talking at club level or international? I was always under the impression that the international “payments” were a set amount, along with certain bonuses.

I wouldn’t see any issue with the women’s teams getting paid the same for international “duty”. Might force the associations into putting more of an effort to promote the women’s game.

Most men that watch women's soccer act the same as Andy gray and Richard keys. It's hilarious how bad it is.

The people weighing in on it are just doing it for show.

The argument is based around how much the US Federation distributes FIFA money. The women players and their backers are going after the federation because FIFA pay more money out of the World Cup bonuses to men than women (for obvious reasons).

The US Women's players get Salarys and bonuses from the federation, the men just get the bonus (and that's if they are selected).

The argument is beyond nonsense. If they have a problem then go to FIFA about it. The US Federation are just distributing the money of what the players collectively bargain for.

I'd imagine the majority of professional footballers both male and female would like to be paid as much as Messi or Ronaldo.

If it's sexism that male soccer stars get paid more than female soccer stars, is it bigotry that english soccer stars get paid more than their Irish counterparts? :pac:

You bit wrong, Womens football in US generates more revenue then mens.

You would know that if you had a clue.

Womens football is awful, awful, awful but in US it makes more moolah than the mens so she is technically correct.

It's true that the Women national team has been earning about the same revenue as the men. The men also earn from their club, and only get paid when they play an earn bonuses. The women get a salary and then a bonus on top of that, not sure how much they earn at club level. The women do seem to deserve equal pay in this case, but that would mean they give up their base salary and most earnings would only come when they play and via bonuses.

Any semi professional under 16 side would easily beat a professional female team, that's the quality difference.

Same in most sports, the William sister was beaten by a semi pro ranked in the hundreds. A male DJ beat the professional female deadlift championship.

But it's not down to skill, male sports generate much much more money, male sponsorship is much bigger too, I'm not playing fifa women 21, I'm buying the male version, I'm buying male boots and male jerseys etc

Presumably the OP is trolling, but I cannot believe Rapinoe can say this with a straight face "just because I am a woman...."

Yes Rapinoe it's because you are a woman, nothing to do with the difference in revenue generation between the sports - no nothing.
And how insulting to women that are victims of actual discrimination based on their sex, tell your sob story to some 18 year old girl trafficked into prostitution.

Also, why doesn't someone pull her up on this absolute garbage ? - people in that room surely know it's nonsense - at least some ?

I guess it's because they are afraid, as if you stand up to it you are a sexist bigot/advocator of rape culture/racist/nazi/blablah......

It’s disgraceful that Jonathan Sexton isn’t being paid the same as Messi because he decided to play a different sport. Soccer makes more than rugby obviously which is why. Men’s Soccer makes more money than women’s soccer too, hence men get paid more.

Women's football is absolutely awful to watch. It's like they have concrete boots and are playing in slow motion. The woke brigade won't like it but men are just superior at most sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,982 ✭✭✭minikin

Simple solution: make all sport unisex. Let members of both sexes compete for their position on the basis of athletic merit. Those who make the squad get paid whatever they are worth / negotiate.

For sure, Serena Williams at her peak would have been about 700 in the ATP rankings, of course John McEnroe was almost cancelled for stating this fact.

He grovelled and apologised and said she was better than Djokovic to quieten the mob.

Again we are in a reality war.

If you played San Marinos men international team who are ranked 210th in the world against the top 11 females in the world San Marino would batter them.

Female soccer is a comedy to watch.

Messi earns more than league 1 players combined.

What's the point? He's paid by the club because they consider it a wise investment for the company.

Any team paying that money to a female player would be bust before finishing the season. Not a good business practice and a leaves a lot of unemployed female players

I saw a video where he refused . there could be two conflicting videos.
we could both be right or does one apology supercede all non-apologies.

    I dunno tbh

from Time but tbh I just did a lazy search
John McEnroe said he will not apologize for claiming Serena Williams is only as good as the 700th-best male tennis player in the world. In an interview with CBS This Morning on Tuesday, McEnroe said he would not apologize for the comments, which he made in an interview with NPR on Sunday

Megan Rapinoe is a pain in the hole anyway. Any sportsperson saying they are not paid enough is delusional really, you have to be really lucky to get paid for playing a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,063 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Doesnt it not depend to an extent on the profession. Equal pay for equal work. But their are definitely exceptions in the world of sport, since it's not equal and very competitive.

Pretty sure female porn stars would get paid a lot more than their male counterparts?

Interestingly I read an article about wrestling in America around 100 or so years ago.
It said that back then female wrestling was way more popular than mens, there were some household names who were earning far more than the blokes ever could.

The Dublin gaa chicks will be asking for same pay as the blokes next. When they sell out croke park, and by that I mean with real gaa fans and families including the blokes not high pitch screaming women hyenas, they can get the same pay.

She must be, and she'd be making way more than a lot of the men. Boxing really shows this up, you can be a huge talent but not make as much money if you're not as marketable. Katie is marketable. Persoon, who she had two very even fights with, which both could have gone Persoon's way, actually has a normal job.

I guess it's because they are afraid, as if you stand up to it you are a sexist bigot/advocator of rape culture/racist/nazi/blablah......

    But that really is it!
Thats the problem in a nutshell!

These stupid things are belittling the actual real issues; its no different than the other Megan's interview.

They seem to be completely surrounding themselves in an echo chamber and any attempt to criticise is put down instantly as some form of *phobia/*ism.
I guess if you are in that environment you will eventually start to believe it.
And it is an ever lowering bar, what will be the next thing?

But there is a very easy way to solve this problem!
Get rid of gender in football and allow women to play on the male teams, all of them.
Obviously I still expect each team to be selecting the best 11 for the game, if they are good enough they'll be included obviously. Problem solved (actually two problems solved!)
