I've been called five times today by 086 numbers which are reasonably similar - they all start with 8299xxx - I haven't answered any of them and won't be doing so. I had largely escaped scam calls until now, apart from the occasional ones from far-flung locations.

Have not had the pleasure of these but my wife gets at least 1/2 a day a few 086/087 numbers she picks up but stays silent then hangs up if nothing is said from there side.

I've been getting 5 or so of these each weekday for the last week or so, mainly from Irish mobile numbers but also from +44 numbers, as well. I haven't been answering recently, so they eventually leave a voicemail, but prior to that I was doing the same as above ^; answering and saying nothing. They hung up after a few seconds of that.

I've been blocking every single number but they don't seem to run out. Bloody harassment with the amount of calls they're making, it's annoying.

Got 3 calls today from 086 8## 4### numbers. last 3 digits varied.

    Didn't answer any of them.

But rang 2 of them back and couldn't connect (not valid numbers).

Had my number not to be displayed on call back.

As someone else said similar no as my own but last 3 digits varying.

Ringing them back can be dodgy. You could end up being charged big money if they were in say Nigeria.I've been getting a few again last week but what I do is answer them and say nothing. The call usually ends in about ten seconds. Then I block that number and they all seem be be Irish numbers.

    So many . Wtf!

Yes was aware of ringing possible international numbers.

On my phone, you have the option to 'edit number before call' to double check the digits.

But these where not and didn't even register as calls on my account.

I get a mix of Irish and UK numbers. They have this sh*tty hold music for the first few seconds after you answer the call, before they connect you to someone. I'm pretty sure they're spoofing the Irish and UK numbers, as I've blocked over 30 now and they keep coming back with new ones.

I just usually get silence when I answer these calls and after a few seconds they hang up.I've blocked about the same but surely they'll get pissed off and pack up soon or run out of numbers.By the way how can they get all these "Irish " numbers?

I think they’re using some hardware and software to spoof the numbers - they aren’t real numbers they have… I think it’s the caller ID that they fake.

My Dad's mobile was getting several of the PPS scam calls a day. I tried the suggestion someone mentioned to put a call through to Lenny. So the last time they called, I happened to answer the call as my Dad was out. I quickly dialled Lenny from the landline, pressed 1 on the mobile and placed the two phones mic to earpiece.

The call lasted about 6 minutes. Unfortunately, the Lenny voice recording didn't pick up the scammer's voice, however, they haven't called again since. 😁

I had two today, after a period of 6 weeks. Unfortunately they both hung up on their end before I could engage. I expect more tomorrow.

Hadn't got one of these for a few weeks but have had 3 calls in the last 24 hours. The last one I stayed on to have a bit of fun with the scammer but they hung up quickly.

I've been getting cursed by scam calls every day, with 086 and 087 numbers. They sound Nigerian and play a little jingle at the beginning of the phone call. They know my name which is worrying. So frustrating as there appears to be nothing to be done to stop it.

Ive been getting calls the last few days from numbers beginning with 036. Dont know if they are coming from abroad because theres no 00 or + before the phone number and 036 isnt an Irish area code. They leave no voice mail and the number cant be rang back.

Never call the number - it can often be a premium line which costs you a lot!

Same here in terms of similar number to my own- I would t mind except about 6 or 7 of my legitimate contacts have similar numbers to mine also as we all got work phones around the same time that had very similar numbers allocated to them

Getting scam calls from numbers very similar to your own? It's called neighbour spoofing

Got another one of these calls today, I did not answer and let it ring out.

Latest scams this week are purporting to be from Amazon and that "your Prime account has been renewed for year. If you dont want to renew 'press one".

Holy ****! It's been happening to me since early August. Same 08* and next three numbers as my mobile number. Never answered it though. Tried once to ring back using landline phone with no caller id and the man on the other line either feigned confusion or genuinely didn't know their number was being used for scam and nuisance call. Just glad to know it's not just me, very weird!

Yeah I was getting these multiple times a day until for 2 days in a row I spent over an hour wasting their time, I put the phone on loud speaker while working and just mindlessly spoke shíte to them. He got pissed off and said he was going to give my number to every one of their agents and get them all to call me. No calls since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,992 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Both my folks are getting them, looking for PPS numbers, I was with my mother when she got one earlier, she is of a quiet calm and level headed personality but was a bit upset with the volume of them and being stressed with my Dad being in hospital too and was just on edge...she was waiting for news on him

i genuinely hope the cûnts die suddenly in roaring agony in front of their kids...fûck the lot of them...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Ive got a couple now, blocked a few. Worrying part is that they are fairly normal numbers in the same county. Could be any hospital or anything ya wouldnt know. Wonder how long is it gonna be that someone says I didnt get the warning phone calls from some company cause we dont answer phone calls from these numbers.

Got one today from (01) 208 07**. Missed it but tried to ring it back and it was an automated answer, no one is available to take your call please call back. The fact their was no name or number on the voicemail suggests it was a fake but still youd worry its a proper agency or something.

i used to get these calls as well but they have stopped now try waiting for them to answer you first then hang up on them this will stop the calls. I do it for all blocked numbers.

They spoof real irish numbers using software, so blocking a number will do nothing to stop them.

The telcos are powerless to it too.
