    Nuclear via interconnect?

The UK get about 20% from nuclear. When they export it’s much lower as renewables are in use.

So what comes in via the interconnecters is less than 20%.

Not all fossil fuel generators are the same. Some are old and inefficient. Others are fast reacting but still inefficient.

When you use electriciiy at peak times these types of generators get called upon.
Their running costs are much higher which in turn drives the market price higher.

So using electricity off peak means that, firstly if renewable sources like wind are available, they will be used. Wind generation can exceed demand (or at least the percentage of demand Eirgrid are comfortable with) at night leading to the energy being wasted.

Secondly, even if fossil generation is needed, only the best and most efficient will be used
