He was pretty much that anyway- even for Clarkson though it was low and uncalled for- even on this thread, I don’t think anyone has really “hated” Meaghan- it takes too much emotional effort to do that and most here criticising her are simply passing comment on “some celebrity” without any emotional attachment.

Clarkson probably thought he’d captured the British sentiment towards her and it completely backfired- likely he submitted copy when drunk and it was never editorially challenged.

Yes, that probably sums it up well. He presumably thought he'd get a load of congratulatory tweets and messages saying 'Good on you, Jeremy' but realised after 24 hours he had gone way too far with the article.

Any 'hate' for her is perplexing. I can totally buy that she might be rather bossy or annoying or whatever but talk of her being a narcissistic manipulative monster seems cartoonish. If you skim through various biographies of her, she was a hard working actress for well over ten years with no talk of her being 'difficult', a diva or a nightmare to deal with.

It’s pure soap opera for me, nothing more. There’s good in most people and I’m sure H&M are loving parents and they’ve done good works in the past- I just hate (there, I’ve used the hate word now😀) - seeing families fall out and publicising what should be kept and resolved in a private setting.

I can somehow now, see why H&M are doing all this - but it doesn’t sit well with me.

If he wasn't cancelled for his comment about shooting striking public workers in front of their kids in 2011 or that trains should not stop for people who have committed suicide by throwing themselves on tracks, so he won't be cancelled for this as well.

I wouldn’t be too sure- they were faceless nameless people- advocating violence against a named woman in 2023? Different story. I think he’ll “survive” in that he’ll be on screens again somewhere after Amazon drop him -ITV unlikely to renew his WWTBAM contract after current commitments have ended as that’s too family friendly a programme - if Netflix keep dropping subscribers or a recession happens which some are forecasting, money talks so a deal with the devil can be on the cards in those circumstances

I don’t think he was advocating violence. It was an ill-thought joke. Jeremy Clarkson was describing himself as lying in his bed awake, grinding his teeth and having a harmful dream about Meghan. Someone on here described it as "an incel fantasy torture porn". Twice married with three kids can't be incel as well as it was not a porn. Also I can't imagine him losing a wink because of her. So it was an obvious p*** off. It can't be taken seriously. Yet is was a scene of torture about a real person, which was not funny. In my opinion he wanted to double down on their hate claims to ridicule them. But it lacked empathy, so it badly backfired.

Yet even Clarkson's article wasn't racist and that was their main accusation about press, so he will be grand, unfortunately...

The only hate I see on this thread, and only logical hate is for the RF/Crown/Institution/Britain.

Nobody hates any one single individual here. Makes 0 sense for anyone to hate Meghan or Harry. They are just individual people

I have said from the start that I find their behaviors contemptible, as do others, and of course this is used by either silly/stupid/obtuse posters, or by deliberate means to try make out anyone could hate Meghan or Harry. There is no logic in this, posters. Wake up....

What really seems to have rubbed the English press up the wrong way is the various lawsuits against the likes of The Sun and the Daily Mail. But I'm sure she would argue that they laid down the gauntlet with a torrent of negative articles about her and her husband (2018-19). She's probably the first ever 'royal' to take on the English tabloids to such a notable degree and that's the real reason this cartoonish version of her being a monster has come to the fore.

There was defo a poster that had a fiery hatred for Meghan, but it was just one.

Ah yeah I didn’t personally see it as malicious but neither did I see the humour in it, and that’s a “fan” of his books speaking. It was a terrible article- I don’t think Clarkson has the word “apology” in his vocabulary so essentially, I think this is as good as it gets- on the funny side, If he does get cancelled by all media, the thought of him losing his estimated 15-20 million income a year will certainly give some people some cause for laughter- certainly a certain Irish producer for starters

I used the hate word today and I stand by it.

When you have someone criticising their lack of “grace and class” for not accepting Clarksons apology what else can you call it.

How f**ked up do you have to be to scrape the barrel that low to find something to criticise them for?

  • Registered Users Posts: 55,183 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Deluded way to come up with hate for an individual based off this rant of yours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭Scott Tenorman

But you can constantly fling about the hate word with abandon about posters and the RF/Institution/Crown/Britain? Hmmm

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,470 ✭✭✭valoren

You deliberately missed the point I was making, deflected follow up and made a pointed insult about me subjectively writing "essays" on a message forum. I stand by my lack of class remark as it seems like private communication with them being made public isn't solely reserved just for the family and was used for point scoring. Classy. I am making the point that if Clarkson can communicate an apology in private then what guarantee does Harrys family have of retaining any privacy since he has explicitly asked for an apology. To explain, I see it as manipulation. The likelihood of an apology is now lessened after a statement about Clarkson. With no apology then it plays into the victim playing (i.e. I asked for an apology and got ignored by the evil b*stards which, in turn, proves me right).

To clarify, this is not a hatred for Harry. It is criticism of the manipulation I believe to be at play which of course isn't exclusive to him. There is precedence i.e. see Gayle King saying after the Oprah interview that there had been a talk between Harry, William and Charles. She described the talk as unproductive. A dad and two sons trying to trash things out but then seeing it reported on CBS the following day. It wouldn't be at all surprising if William and Charles went AWOL in terms of attempting reconciliation if any private conversations were used subsequently.

Clarkson is an unrepentant misogynist; he’s always been a completely arrogant big head, and many people have put up with his antics and behaviours over the years.

    Not me.

My issue is that his completely over the top article on Meghan, plus his half arsed apology, gives H&M ammunition to continue their on ridiculous whining about “how badly they were treated”.

    Lord, gimme a break!

Would love to know what makes it beyond pathetic rather than plain old pathetic. Is there a scale for this? 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,300 ✭✭✭✭jm08

What makes it and its author pathetic in when they quote the statement from the Sussexes is they have cut the first paragraphy out which said that Clarkson had excluded Meghan in the apology. I presume he made it private and confidential so that they could not publish it (and people would have seen that he had not apologised to Meghan) and if they did, he could probably try and sue them. The part in bold is what was excluded from the Spectator article.

"On December 25, 2022, Mr. Clarkson wrote solely to Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. The contents of his correspondence were marked Private and Confidential.

While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr Clarkson, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny.‘Unless each of his other pieces were also written “in a hurry”, as he states, it is clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of articles shared in hate.’

    ------

Clarkson needs to apologise to Meghan.

Saw this elsewhere, and thought that given Omid Scobie's position as H&M cheerleader in chief. That Harry throwing him under a bus was quite funny. I don't mind the drama, the drive to make each retelling of their truth better than the last...

But at least keep a tab of what lies you told, to whom and check that they didn't print your lies with your imprimatur

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,300 ✭✭✭✭jm08

From the court case it was Jason Knauf (William's right hand man) who was briefing Scobie, so was probably lying to Scobie. Knauf later testified in court in his defence of The Mail on Sunday in Meghan's privacy court case which she won, that Meghan had agreed to Knauf speaking to him to keep the records straight. Neither Harry or Meghan spoke to Scobie.

I think I'd believe Harry over Knauf in this instance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭JoChervil

"But in new evidence heard on Wednesday, Jason Knauf, the couple's former communications secretary, said the book was "discussed on a routine basis" and "discussed directly with the duchess multiple times in person and over email".

An unremarkable article to add to the list of other unremarkable articles- I wonder Is there anything left to be said at this stage?

Read enough of these articles and you see the same themes written about again and again.

Hopefully his 15 minutes has passed at this point, for this book at least-it’s rather repetitive now.

I learned a new word from this, which totally describes Harry and this book - solipsistic. It means, “ the belief that only your own experiences and existence can be known or are important”. Perfect

Bit like a less extreme version of that guy who wrote the article for Washington Examiner.

In particular, he suggested Fianna Fail had won every Irish election between 1932 and 2008, when in fact the liberal-conservative party Fine Gael was in power on six occasions during the period

When the accuracy of his article was questioned, Mr Hannan said “historians necessarily have different takes on the same event”, adding: “Please try to accept that yours is not the only interpretation.”

    😂

    This reply won the internet

Another Twitter user told a longer tale, joking: “Michael Collins faked his own death in 1922 in what was then Ireland’s largest insurance scam. Collins would later flee to America and flew the Apollo 11 mission. He would be immortalised in the song ‘In the air tonight’ written by his brother Phil #HannanIrishHistory.”

    😂
