When lockdown is over, wouldn't Hooters be a great place to spend the evening, good food, few pints, check out the talent?

All our problems in this country boil down to not having Hooters bars.

    No.

    That was a joke really,

Don't get me wrong I've no real desire to go to a string fellow club but the people protesting age delusional. It's like they play ignorance that if they don't see it then it doesn't exist. Then you have the bible bashers saying "sin sin sin"

Sorry but ireland needs to get over itself and move on, just like the rest of modern europe / america's etc

Not sure why Hooters is being mentioned in the same breath as Stringfellows and legalised prostitution. Passed the one in the Mall Of America in Minneapolis one time, and there was a kid’s birthday party going on inside.

Ok, so the waiting staff are all women and wear the tight T-shirts, but it’s pretty much Benny Hill level of eroticism.

It would be illegal to only hire female wait staff in Ireland. Do you want to ogle guys in tight tshirts too?

    That's not true

If that's the case you better get onto someone to go around and close half of the countries women's hair salons

When lockdown is over, going out to a leaf thatched hut being served last months bacon and cabbage by the corpse of Peig Sayers with a pint of drainwater to wash it all down will make for a far better evening than this current $hite, never mind hooters

Its entirely true. Its been illegal for decades. You cannot descriminate by sex in employment purposes no matter how you wish to.

Your comparison to provision of services is irrelevant as its different legislation. Pretty much every womans hair salon in the country will do guys hair, btw - its generally barbers that won't do womens hair.

    It's illegal to discriminate.

Its not illegal to have a load of Busty young ladies serving food in a restaurant. It should be encouraged.

If a suitably qualified man applied and was not given the job due to not being busty and female, he would be able to clean them out for discrimination.

You can't advertise jobs as looking for women (or men) only. You can't hire on that basis. You will be bankrupt pretty fast if you try to.

Ya a man could apply, doesn't mean you have to employ them.

Interviews are subjective so there is no way to prove he is suitably qualified in a hospitality setting and no way to prove it's down to breast size unless you are stupid enough to put it on the application or advert

Ya a man could apply, doesn't mean you have to employ them.

It does, if they are the most suitable candidate for the job

If they can prove the only reason they weren't hired was due to being male, you'll be on the hook for five figures compo

When every waiter in the country realises there's a payday from applying and being refused; you'll be bankrupt.

Pretty bloody easy to prove its down to gender when you can show they have no male waiters.

They would be sued in to the ground.

    You picked that up wrong

I am talking about the people employed at the women hair dressers as in atleast half of them in the country are owned , operated and employ women only. Go get them closed down... It won't happen.

But I'd you're talking about that then why for years haven't people gone after its4women.ie for discriminating on car insurance for women only ?

They could set up a separate sister establishment with male only employees and call it 'Flute'rs'

The majority of people who cut hair for a living in Ireland are women; but there are plenty of men working in womens hair salons including many of the "superstar" stylists who charge insane amounts of money.

    its4women insure men. Always have.

And just how are you going to prove it is my point.
Builders down the road only have guys working there, nail bar only women.

If hooters opened down the road I'd expect only women to be server's. If a guy wants to apply so be it, they could alway say he messed up the interview.

I was in the hooters in Vegas at 4am before, servers were about 50 years old and rough as sandpaper. Their not all Barbie lookalikes

There are very few female builders

There are very few male nail technicians. Neither employer is making stuff up to refuse to hire men.

There are huge, huge numbers of male wait staff.

It would be facile to prove discrimination and a massive pay day for every lad that applied.

You can't whitewash refusing to hire male waiters by pointing to the kitchen; but anyway there are plenty of women working in commercial kitchens

If Hooters came to Ireland, there'll be male waiters too or they'll be sued out of existence. And that's why they won't come to Ireland.

Ya I heard your broken record, just don't agree.

By the way I wouldn't be too bothered with a guy server, herself might want to go then too.

Just so sad... As a man i fully support a restaurant not employing our gender - perfectly acceptable to hide us in the back

You can't chose to not agree with the actual law.

No nonsense workarounds come up with by someone here will actually work. They'd be broke in months from the compo.

In regards to a place called Hooters ya it would be pretty easy to prove what they were up to. I just meant a pub in general. Strip clubs must have some way round it though

Hopefully we never get one because US pubs are absolutely crap amd the less food and table service we see in pubs post lockdown the better

    It most definitly is.

    Employment Equality Act, 1998

Discrimination for the purposes of this Act.
6.—(1) For the purposes of this Act, discrimination shall be taken to occur where, on any of the grounds in subsection (2) (in this Act referred to as “the discriminatory grounds”), one person is treated less favourably than another is, has been or would be treated.

    (2) As between any 2 persons, the discriminatory grounds (and the descriptions of those grounds for the purposes of this Act) are—

    (a) that one is a woman and the other is a man (in this Act referred to as “the gender ground”),

    Advertising.
10.—(1) A person shall not publish or display, or cause to be published or displayed, an advertisement which relates to employment and which—

    (a) indicates an intention to discriminate.

    Offences: general provisions.:
100.—(1) A person who is guilty of an offence under any provision of this Act shall be liable—

    (a) on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding £1,500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 year or both, or

    (b) on conviction on indictment, to a fine not exceeding £25,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or both.

There's loads of hooters across Europe, do we not have the same discrimination laws as them for the most part?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,190 ✭✭✭✭Sleeper12

It would. And it would good too if we grew up about sex and legalised prostitution.

I can't believe prostitution was brought up in the same thread as Hooters. Hooters is a family friendly restaurant. :(

There's one in England and two in Germany; that seems to be about it. There were a lot more in the UK but they failed, woefully.

    They would also employ men.

There's nothing stopping a bloke getting insurance through its4women. Moreover, the quote is the exact same if you put in the same details, age, car reg, address, driving experience and tick the male instead of female box....

Not that I am disagreeing with what you are saying but how do Hooters in the UK get away with it? Dont they have very similar discrimination laws?
