The cold blob versus the Gulfstream

Interesting article in the NY Times about the battle ground between the gulf stream and increasingly colder north Atlantic waters.

Bound to have major implications here. Colder maybe more turbulent too I'd imagine. I wonder how our climate will look in 10-20 years time as a result?

The Greenland currents flow to the west. So wouldn’t they need to divert Southeast to cool our waters?

Obviously without the Gulf Stream waters would cool slightly. But I can’t see a major cooling unless the Greenland currents divert.

This cold blob seems to affect our Summers more than our Winters.

There seems to be many cool spells in our Summers affected by the cold blob. Winter is probably relatively cool already so not as noticeable.

Though maybe because not as much ice around Greenland is melting in Winter the cold blob is not there as much in Winter as in NOAA chart above.
