Car speakers upgrade - sound level VERY low

    Hi all

    Last year, I bought a new Kia e-Niro and as with may cars, had stock cheapass 4ohm 40watt speakers. I decided to upgrade them and bought 4 x JBL Stage600CE's which are spec's as 4ohm 45w speakers.

    There are tiny tweeters in the front corners of the windscreen which I haven't managed to replace yet, but all sound really now seems to be coming from them and very little from the new speakers.

    If I change the audio settings to balance towards the rear speakers, it absolutely confirms that there is feck all sound from the new speakers.

    I wired the old wiring into the crossovers and wired the speaker and tweeter into the crossovers.

    Have I done something wrong ? Is there anything I can do to get the volume I expected ?

    If it’s wired correctly the problem might be that the original radio unit isn’t powerful enough to drive your new speakers. If you put 40w per channel through the factory fitted speakers it’d probably set them on fire, the JBL speakers might need a seperate amplifier to drive them, or a more powerful head unit.

    Check your wiring is correct, & consult an in-car audio specialist if you’re still having problems.

    Kia's have shyte rear speakers .
    Barely audible..

    Whats the sensitivity spec of the New speakers ?

    Modern car speakers are amazingly sensitive, with very lightweight components, making it very easy to move the cone to create the sound.
    Great for higher frequencies, but just no grunt when it comes to bass. Hence the need to change them.

    So Looks like your speakers are 90db
    Stock speakers could be up to 99db, which is 9db difference. Thats almost 10 times the sound level difference.
