It clearly wasn’t selling at the €240 price, it’s been sitting on shelves for months in the Maynooth Tesco and Kilcock supervalue…was gone from shelf yesterday at the €200 price.

The releases during the Covid years must have been much higher quality considering how quickly they sold and the high prices they fetched. I wonder why this vintage doesn't taste as good? 😜

I think it was the 2022 vintage I bought as my first MVR. I have tried to save it for celebrations and big occasions, but it's way down on my list of favourites. I thought I was just missing something as a relative novice to good whiskey but it never really grew on me over the last few years.

Any price reduction or fall off in sales has to be down to the change in packaging! They should never have switched from wood to cardboard. Savvy shoppers aren't forking out €240 for a bottle in a cardboard box.

It's all about the packaging 😁.

Someday, somewhere, someone will successfully break the ridiculous connection between seriously high end quality, whisky and packaging - namely superfluous boxes. Someday.

How come high end wine buyers don't dismiss a €500 bottle of Chateau Lynch because it doesn't come in an individual wooden box? This is a serious question. Why is it deemed absolutely necessary to put high value whiskies in boxes but not similarly priced wines?

It's not a terribly exciting drop, really, imo. Although I do remember one particular year's being incredibly coconutty and tropical (2001, maybe) - that was interesting. Nut it's always a very nice blend just, perhaps, not worth anything like the money it sells for.

I suspect more of the 500 quid wine gets drunk; the bulk of MVR seems to get shoved in wardrobes.
