Click on the profile icon at the bottom of the home screen. Then click on 'EN' and the UK flag on the top right to change country/region to France and currency to Euro. You should be able to use your existing address and no customs should apply. Watch out for regional differences in products if applicable, like french keyboard or euro plug.

Does the link on hagglezon not open on Amazon france?

If not tap the UK fleg on the person Icon tab, you can select country and language there. French site doesn't give the option for English so it may be easier using a pc browser where you can use Google translate. Unless you have a bit of French or are very used to buying through the app so so know what buttons to press. Watch out for signing up to prime!

No you don't need a French address. You can buy from any amazon site worldwide and log in with your UK account details.

No customs you are buying from EU, price will jump a little as you will be paying 23% for Irish VAT though instead of French rate of 20%.

Perservere with the ChatBot thingy. You have to ask it a question it can't answer before it will ask you if you want to chat with a real person.

We got the Logitech G29 steering wheel, pedals and gear stick for PS5 at Christmas. Really good combo. A good stand is also needed though. A sturdy stand that won't move when turning hard.

We got this stand as we already had a good racing chair. 2 wheels of the chair sit into the stand so it doesn't move:

I ordered something recently. I did it on my computer by just going to www.amazon.fr and creating profile there. Delivered by UPS. I got it delivered to my Irish address.

I have a GT Omega stand for ages……and I've only just realised from your post that the gap at the front is for chair wheels to sit into and stop the chair moving.

Thank you. And I'm an idiot.

I got a lot of advice from the great gamers in the PS5 thread on what to buy. Yeah putting the wheels into the stand secures it so you can really go for it when racing fast and doing stuff like destruction derby with 30 other stock cars 👍

Don't do that whatever you do. Having had 2 of the overpriced, PoCs in varying forms break down just past the warranty period, we're currently on a Shark and very happy with it. He's also a Brexiteer who moved his business to Singapore the second it was implemented.

Always wanted a shark. I use HEPA bags but when Henry packs up I'll try a shark. I suffer with dust mite allergies pretty bad. Is a shark really 100% air tight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,589 ✭✭✭savemejebus

switched from Henry to Shark (got it from Very for less than Amazon) last month and am very impressed, much better suction, amazing on carpets and wood floors (have 4 golden retrievers so used a couple of times a day) and best of all no smells or dust in the air after.

Yes, Shark is the way to go I find. Amazon often does great deals on their vacuums.

Not 100% sure ours is airtight - we got it at a big discount as ex floor model in a local hardware store so there was no box. The no hair wrap thing does work very well though (2 long haired daughters who brush a lot + a border collie who doesn't). It's heavier than the Dyson stick thing it replaced, but not drastically, and way more powerful.

Lads, please set up a hoover thread somewhere else, this thread is about Amazon bargains.

How are ye finding about the tablets so quickly? Is there a way of notifying you? I'm looking to replace the kids tablet. Thanks.

In relation to the doorbell posted today 10 min ago. I have a similar version from the same manufacture, it has two receivers that are both plugged in. I have had it over 4 years and it's working perfectly with no issues. I still haven't needed to change the doorbell battery.

And the great thing, if you know there are politicians, religious groups or door sellers going around you can just turn off the plug.

I use camelcamelcamel, set an alert for when an item goes under a certain amount and you'll get notified.

My post from the other day has disappeared though - not sure why

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,950 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

I just registered there, but when I went to look at popular products, I get the following warning: Due to laws in your country, we are unable to show the price difference on this page. Sorry.

    What's that about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭ablelocks

no idea - i don't use the actual website though. I only installed the browser plugin and use that within the amazon website

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,276 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Have a lot of these. If you want slightly stronger ones go for the Heavy Duty ones made of recycled plastic. The down side is they aren't transparent but they are normally slightly cheaper. These are regularly on offer so if there is a size you want then save it to your Amazon List and keep an eye on it. Sooner or later the price will go down also beware they regularly put the price up to make the discount look convincing. These have been as low as £30 which is when I bought them last. With prices in general increasing they may not go that low again but suspect they will go below the current price.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Mr Price stock them and they're usually much cheaper there.

I would imagine not without delivery charges and no facility for prime, ala the .de, etc.

Well more and more items on Amazon say they can't be delivered to this address so they could just put a block on all Irish addresses. The difference with Germany France etc is the common market of the EU so have to be able to order from them, but with Brexit that's not a guarantee with the UK site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,752 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I was listening to morning Ireland about this. All very vague for now, but unclear if this is good or bad news for the shopper. On one side, shorter delivery times, no customs, no exchange fees, etc. But on the other, smaller market so presumably smaller stock levels.

And prime is the key thing too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 107 ✭✭spark_tank

This is bad news. We're lucky to be benefitting from what is probably the cheapest European Amazon site at the moment. Enjoy it while it lasts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭jones

Is the UK one really the cheapest though? I find the .it/.de/.es sites are generally around the same price or cheaper (maybe its just the stuff i'm ordering). I tend to order mainly from UK as i've prime and free fast delivery but i didn't think the prices were vastly different between the european sites. If anything the UK site has gotten dearer since brexit IMO.

I see this greatly reducing the range available to Ireland and probably increasing the cost of items. More for 3rd party sellers, than items sold directly (fully) by Amazon.

3rd party sellers who use Amazon Fulfillment have to ship their stock to an Amazon warehouse for the region/country. I don't see many small sellers shipping stock to .IE, which serves a population a fraction of the size of the .UK or .DE sites etc.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭Enrico Palazzo

I heard they're going to name it Amazon Treasure Island.

If it filtered out the 3rd party sellers crap I'd see it as a bonus.

Probably just more comparison legwork for those who bother with the likes of camel/hagglezon.

  • it’s too late, they took the Irish market for granted and now the Chinese have taken over along with the Irish finding other stores like alltricks / decathlon etc. along with trying to support the bricks and mortar who support our retail economy much more than Amazon do.

I reduced my spent with them by about 90% and cancelled my prime long ago and don’t see myself going back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭Marhay70

I wonder will we finally be able to get lithium-ion batteries for tools etc.? I've had to resort to obscure, well to me anyway, websites to get batteries delivered here. Irish retailers are a rip off because they know there's no competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 380 ✭✭smilgy

Anyone have past experience of the 10% Amazon Warehouse discount applying to mobile phones? I was checking a few nights ago, and it was being applied to some oneplus phones, but checked yesterday and it seems to have been removed..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 611 ✭✭✭ECookie13

I'd wager we will get shafted with the Irish website in terms of pricing, the ol' paddy tax.

They'll likely remove the free shipping from the UK store I'm guessing.

A few months ago a friend of mine who works in one of Amazon's businesses in Ireland had been told that Amazon had major expansion plans in Ireland, he didn't predict the website but said that the fulfillment centre is not fully operational yet but that will change and we'll get more items on same day or next day delivery, more products etc.

So this seems to be the start of that. I think it will be good in the longrun. Hate how Amazon just lumped Ireland in with UK and forced us to pay in sterling or higher € rates.I hope they increase the range of products available too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,573 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

i can guarantee their prices on the IE site will be the UK price converted using their own terrible rate. Every english based business that opens in Ireland does it so I can't see amazon being any different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,919 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

we won’t be any better off price wise and it it’s like the rest of Europe that doesn’t offer prime then it will be worse, I buy from the German website and €7.99 postage makes me think twice

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,591 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

You can't guarantee that as you don't know. Also Amazon are not an English based business. They're based in Ireland.

A surprising number of items I've bought with Prime on .co.uk recently have shipped from France or Germany. Obviously free shipping with Prime but longer delivery times. So I don't see why Amazon.ie can't have a subset of fast moving .co.uk stock and just more slower moving lines shipped from the EU.

While they don't tell you that an item is coming from say France its fairly obvious that its not coming from the UK when the delivery times are 4 or more days.

Wake me up when it's all over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,591 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Sorry but why do you think you can't get prime in other countries? You can but you have to take a separate subscription for it. Your sub doesn't work in other countries.

So most likely you will have option of switching your prime account to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,919 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

by prime I mean prime delivery like we get in the U.K. where you pay monthly or yearly and get unlimited deliveries

Why do you think amazon.ie won't offer prime delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,919 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

I didn’t say that, if you read my post it says if it’s anything like the rest of Europe then we will be worse off

Nobody knows what the strategy will be only Amazon themselves
