    Hellloooooooo

I got my mam a fitbit versa 2 and I am just wondering if I set it up using my phone will she be able to use it?

She only really wants it to tell her how far she has gone/steps taken/heart rate.

Can the watch operate independently or do you need to have the phone , with downloaded app, on your person as you are out strolling?

My fitbit HR works independently of the app. You can track daily footsteps. BPM. etc...

But to monitor your sleep, diet, exercise properly you'll need the app.

As far as i can tell. The fitbit tracker/watch just collects data points. Then sends them to the mobile phone app for processing by a process fitbit terms 'syncing'. This works both ways.

The phone receives the data points. Processes them. Updates the mobile phone app. Then updates the fitbit 'tracker' with the results.

Not sure about the versa, but the HR doesn't have a GPS chip. So it uses the phone's GPS to record route, distance etc...

Does your mum not have a phone? To get the most out of the fitbit. You should really have the mobile app synced with the watch.

I have the Fitbit Charge so can't comment on the Versa directly but I don't think it's any more 'advanced' so should be the same.

I have the app on an old handset that doesn't have a sim so I don't have it out and about with me and it records everything. And I can check on steps on the Fitbit on my wrist whenever I want so she should be able to see the distance, steps and HR on the unit itself without having the phone with her.
