Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Can't beat the Cheltenham Handicaps!

Not really left field but really fancy Wide Reciever for the Martin pipe

Could go coral cup but I think Martin Pipe must likely

There was 2 out for a spin the weekend for Mullins, not even hiding the fact they werent trying. Buildmeupbuttercup (non tryer the last 2 runs) and Uradel. Dont know how they got away with the ride on Buildmeupbuttercup the weekend blatant stuff.

Interesting that the handicapper didn’t touch her mark after finishing 16th beaten 35+ lengths. Still rated 145 and will probably get a few lbs before she gets on the boat. Punchestown possibly the main target for her?

Looked all over the winner in the Coral Cup last year, cantered up jumping the last but didnt find much off the bridle, I think she would have improved this year so be interesting if she went Chelt again especially off 145

I reckon Nicholls has been having it away with Solo, has been pulled from next weekends betfair which means either has met a set back or wins the County Hurlde by 10 lenghts ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭RivetingRoger

    Grand Annual looks impossible!
I have a sneak for Mengli but that might just be a bit of personal bias. I have a grá for the horse. Entoucas could be the one tho. Ran well at the weekend. Good solid horse

Hoping that La Richbourg gets dropped a few pounds for a possible tilt at the Grand Annual

Nicholls wouldn't be pulling a horse he thought was well handicapped from the Betfair to keep him away from the handicapper until the County. Not how he operates.

Solo isn't even in the County Hurdle market as far as I can see. Very easy to request a price if you do fancy him for it.

Agreed, thats why I am worried that something may be amiss with him

Nicholls hasn’t had a winner over hurdles at the Festival since 2016. Kauto Star in 2009 was also his last winner over fences before Dodging Bullets won the Champion Chase in 2015. He’s due a winner over hurdles this year by the looks of it!

It was the county hurdle she ran in. Certainly no plot anyways. Could make a case that she is well treated on Flat form.

Furthest thing from a 'plot' you could get. Far too consistent a horse who runs his race the majority of the time.

    Not Handicap Plots

22nd February I think, its definitely the end of February, from recollection I think it is usually Monday week after the Betfair, it that makes sense! As in 9 days after the Betfair.

You are most probably right, but I do love a good cliff horse!

Cognisant of the fact that his original mark was very high and seemed to be given taking into account the regard Nicholls held the horse in, he has gotten him down to a mark 16lbs lower, I wont back him in advance but if there is even a hint of blue on the day I will be jumping in for one more mug bet :D

Any decent stats on Nicholls handicap winners over the last 5-10 years or so, I'd be interested to how it shaped up.

At the festival or in general?

At the festival Nicholls has trained 45 festival winners, 14 of those in handicaps with 5 handicap winners between 2015-2020

A few Grand Annual winners and Coral Cup was all I could think off top of my head. Can't think of names. One was definitely a JP horse though.

He’s had 2 grand annual winners in the last 5 runnings. Le Prezien and Solar Impulse

I looked at it last night, he hasn’t won a hurdles race since the County Hurdle in 2016. He’s won at least one Chase for the last 4 years. Another interesting one is the Champion Chase Dodging Bullets won was his first Festival winner over fences since Kauto won the Gold Cup in 2009.

It was the Fred Winter that he won in 2016, Skeltons won the 2016 County.

You’re correct, my mistake. He won the Martin Pipe on the Friday so that was his last winner over hurdles. I was shocked reading that last night I thought he won a hurdles race a lot more recent than that.

I think recently and Im not sure if it has been dictated by the horses he has at his disposal or simply a change in objectives he has definitely put far more emphasis on the trainers title than Cheltenham.

Has a weak enough team again this year at first glance, the only two I would be keen on are Bravemansgame and Shantou Flyer in the Foxhunters, maybe Next Destination and after that its only really the handicaps.

Salubrious was the name of the horse. Backed him at 25s! Bolted in. 2013 Cheltenham festival. My biggest priced winner.

Watching back the DRF i thought Galopin Des Champs for Willie could be one for the County. Was right there in 3rd place coming to the final flight but just faded away.

I still like Hazel Hill for the foxhunters
That was very good LTO, it needed to be tho.
This is a quality horse. Age is a worry

Finished second in a poor enough Arkle but stayed on up the hill well that day. Thought his run last year was very good to be fair but he’s a frustrating horse, the epitome of a bridesmaid. Wouldn’t put you off him though, haven’t checked but I’d say he’s a fair price.

Dalton Highway ran a nice race having been upped in trip in the pertemps qualifier at punchestown today. 33’s still available

Keep an eye out for Call Me Lord if he runs in the Coral Cup. Will have an outstanding chance running off a high 140s mark.
