But are you a night owl ? :D

That's what I thought. Like, 3am snow for a few hours. Might be gone by morning then.

I'd say 5km inland from the coast you be in a nice spot for few hours of decent snow tonight, before it washes away. But who knows anymore.

HARMONIE is giving about 10 centimetres

Not sure what to expect here. Some chart seem to show 10cm others show 2cm.

10 cm up the hill, 2 cm down at the shore? 5 at your house.

As others have mentioned its been a very odd "Easterly" in that areas expected to do most well for snowfall eg. North Kildare etc. have done very poorly while areas right on the West Coast like Westport have seen their best snow in decades:confused:

Met Eireann are great, they really are, but why do they feel the need to post all these 'emojis' (or whatever they are called) when they tweet something?

    https://twitter.com/MetEireann/status/1360280004404404224

It's very off putting. I have noticed that the UK Met do this sometimes as well. I get that they are trying to 'be down with the kids', but to be honest, it just comes across as trying too hard.

Some of the models show the front speeding up when it reaches here.. so we get far less snow.

The 15Z ICON Flash has absolutely zero snow for this area overnight but of course does have rain. It's even more pronounced in the Swiss 4x4! The Flash was fairly accurate about yesterday's snow distribution so no reason to doubt it today, though it could just be reprimanding me for my alleged disrespect of other areas' snow. :pac:

For the southeast it really is mostly a high terrain event, from the Comeraghs to Wicklow, but the midlands, west and north again in for something special. I don't know how you do it but again, fair play. Here, this week turned into the Least from the East, or my favourite, the Shíte from the Right, as someone here coined!

It'll be interesting to see Castlederg, Thomastown and Lough Fea's hourly snow depths up to tomorrow morning. Even Ballypatrick Castle should do well. I would imagine 3-4 cm at the first two, maybe 6 at Lough Fea and Ballypatrick Forest.

Still not snow warnings out for Aldergrove or Belfast City airports, which is unusual. They do have the peculiar combination of strong wind and frost warnings, though.

I thought there was a chance of orange/Amber being issued but unlikely now at this late stage. Met office warning states up to 20cm on high ground so maybe lough fea could do quite well .

I’m thinking early morning trek up the hill beside Carlow Town here could be interesting, around 330m

Thought I would see how this new trend in overdosing on the aul emogies looks on MT's opening summary this morning (and I honestly hope he dosen't mind me experimenting with his work) and you know what? it looks great! It portrays to the world what a fun, down to earth kind of guy he is!

    See below

TRENDS for the week of 12 to 18 Feb 2021 --

-- Temperatures ️ will average 1 to 2 deg above normal, the smaller departures ☺️ expected in Ulster and Leinster.
-- Rainfall ️ will average about 2 to 3 times normal amounts across the south ☂️☂️☂️then closer to average ️ in central and northern regions where some of that will be #snow ❄️❄️ overnight and on Saturday.
-- Sunshine will start to appear a little but probably won't surpass half of the normal mid-February amounts. ☁️☁️☁️

Perhaps MT will see this and perhaps take the hint on how to be in with times next time he writes up his forecast.

Well of course it was our friend Dr. Adjunct Professor Emeritus Nolan of Irish Weather Channel who first perfected the art of overdoing the emojis purely to gain shares and likes, starting every post with...

The emojis allow Met Eireann to add more detail to their posts.
one emoji equals 1 character, satellite = 9 characters, same for the others, its clever use so they can say more.

They are saying more without needing to.

The last line of that tweet I posted informed us to 'see below', followed then by an emogi pointing downward to what we can already see below, because, without that pointing down emogi we, the dimwitted masses, wouldn't know what 'see below' means without a picture telling us.
