Swearing filter

Would it be possible to make having swearing filtered and option in a users control panel? I just think having a filter is a bit childish on a site who's userbase is overwhelmingly adults.

The swear filter can only be turned on or off for the whole site, there is no ability to do it by user or by forum for example.

It has it's uses. A lot of things can be said without resorting to swearing, it's not a bad thing to discuss without swearing or at least having to think about the words used before getting around the swear filter as lots of people do.
