Most, if not all of my family are full on DUP types and they love Trump. It fits perfectly with conservatism.

People have always twisted religion to suit their purposes. Even the devil has done so in the bible.

It's always been this way. The ten commandments explicitly forbid murder and make no exception and yet it was fine for hordes of Christians to descend on the middle east to engage in an orgy of violence.

Jesus explicitly says that people ought to pay their taxes ("Render unto Caesar...") but the American God helps those who help themselves.

I struggle to think of anything more American than the idea that someone, be it liberals, communists or foreigners, are coming to take what's yours so you'd better have your guns ready.

Jesus: "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God"

    Trump:

    Untitled Image

Not to mention the diverting of charitable donations to his own businesses, not paying people, and doing everything he can to appear even richer than he is.

F*ck sake.... the man is an affront to Christianity...

Or even just not being able to name his favourite verses of the Bible, or holding it up correctly

Ah yeah, but we all know by now that the evangelicals have simply hand-waved away Trump's brazen UnChristian behaviour in that he is the "imperfect vessel", to use their exact language. Not like the "traditional" churches are immune to selective reading of their own teachings - but the American Evangelical circuit lead the way.

I see Trump as the embodiment of Conservative Christianity if I'm being honest. He just abandoned the trappings.

The Evangelical viewpoint that anything and everything bad that happens to you is your own fault and because you did not pray hard enough is my personal favourite.

Poor - Didn't pray hard enough , Sick - Didn't pray hard enough.

Allows them to ignore anyone they like by simply saying "They didn't show God enough love" and also means they can defend things like cuts to Social programs , education and health care because "God helps those who help themselves" and "Hand-outs are for the weak"

A form of religion based on absolute fealty and subjugation of self in the pursuit of "showing god enough love so that he doesn't smite you" and one where giving over a large percentage of your earnings to the church is expected.

    Yeah...Not a cult , definitely not a cult.

Don't forget the important part of this grift: you didn't donate enough money to your pastor church.

Pretty shítty thing to accuse others of lambasting ALL of Christianity when it's quite clear American Evangelism stands alone; though it's easy to use that as a shield than interrogate the grotty truth that evangelical churches in America are often a shameless grifty - and deeply inhumane.

Joel Osteen , one of the biggest "Mega Church" pastors and worth millions , refused to open up his massive Church buildings in Houston a few years back to allow people to take refuge during/after the Hurricane that hit there and only did so after being called out publicly for it.

He's personally worth $50M plus, earning directly linked to his "church".

People here lose their minds when they find out that the CEO of a Charity is earning a relatively modest sum for someone running an organisation of its size , but in the US no one seems to think it odd that Preachers are pocketing tens of millions in donations annually from their congregations and not using the money for charitable or religious purposes.

Lauren Boebert, evidently unhappy that Marge is getting all the right wing headlines, caused a fuss at a musical in Denver and was ushered out by security for vaping and insisting she was too entitled to be stopped

Not without reason the "Karen" became a thing In the first place (even if I feel sorry for women actually called Karen); and there's a special place in hell anyway for those who use their phones in cinemas, theatres and suchlike.

A couple years out of date, going by the last entry:

Timothy Lee Nolan (born February 5, 1947) is an American registered sex offender and former state district court judge, a former leader in the Republican Party and a former chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign in Campbell County, Kentucky. On February 9, 2018, he pleaded guilty to 19 counts of child sex trafficking and human trafficking; on February 11, 2018, he was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison.[2][3]

Actually I agree to an extent.Whilst hypocrisy is to be called out in all cases it is a big yawn comparing "real Christians" versus more obvious phonies when we are just talking shades of delusion between the two (or more) groups.

This subject serves to justify those unquaint belief systems whereas I would rather (quixotically) hope to trivialise the lot of them.

How can the esteemed Biden , one of the most successful Potus's ever I keep hearing , be in such a struggle against Trump.

The common traits between extreme Conservatives in UK, US, Ireland in recent years has made it almost impossible to differentiate between them.

And so Trump has failed in getting the colorado case moved to Federal court. More winning.

oh and this also just in

New on the Fulton County docket: Trump files waiver of speedy trial rights "in exchange for the severance he previously requested in his motion to sever."

Trump offers to not insist he be tried next month with everybody else in exchange for being tried separately from everyone else at a later date??

So he's offering absolutely nothing in return for everything he wants??

    Brilliant legal strategy right there.

What does this mean in plain English? Trump must be a very clever man if he understands what his lawyers are up to!.

Your honor, im agreeing to delay my case in exchange for complicating the trial.

    It's laughable.

This isn't any leftist liberal snowflake complaining about Trump, this is former Republican presidential candidate texting the Republican leader of the house.

wasn't it Liz Cheney who once said that after Trump is gone, people will have time to live with their conscience as to how they opposed or facilitated him.

Romney and McConnel will be viewed very differently, in that respect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,668 ✭✭✭✭briany

In the old Conservative tradition of power for power's sake, Mitch McConnell has completely bypassed his principles in order to retain some relevance within the GQP, whereas Romney has been outspoken against the direction the party has drifted in and been rewarded by being pushed to the fringes of the party.

With respect to Liz Cheney, there will be no soul searching done in a post Trump phase as all the players will be too busy trying to wrangle control of his voter base.

There will be no return to normalcy within the Republican party without a major slapdown being delivered.

Classic false flag designed to send patriots to FEMA camps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭amandstu

Was Romney's aim to force McConnell to do the right thing by reminding him occasionally that he had this information.

Eventually he realised that he would get no more from McConnell than what he had .

So when he announced he would no longer be standing for re election he got the last bit of use out of this text message and shows us what is in McConnell's black heart.

Maybe that is why McConnell has been freezing...he is staring into his own complicity. A haunted man.

"How can the esteemed Biden , one of the most successful Potus's ever I keep hearing , be in such a struggle against Trump"

Yes it is disappointing. Biden is imo a pretty successful Potus whereas Trump is a cesspit of a human being.

As such ,he has his followers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭Burty330

He was was elected once , only lost reelection by the skin of his teeth and is currently polling ahead of Joe Biden. Of course he has his followers. That's like saying water is wet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,983 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

And you're talking about polling a year out from the election.. You're also invariably picking polling that is always favourable to the GOP. There's a strong chance he's gonna end up convicted in the next year, on top of that a lot of people are gonna really struggle to vote for a rapist in a polling booth. Plus I can't imagine Trump will fare particularly well in a debate given his current situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,021 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Trump was beaten by Biden in the EC by the same margin which Trump beat Hilary, which he described the latter as a landslide so it wasn't (by his own definition) as 'the skin of his teeth'

The rapist never won the popular vote. In a functioning democracy, that's quite an important detail.
