@Penn: "He'll fight and drag it out for as long as possible with bullsh*t excuses and time delays, but there's a good chance he settles and agrees to plead guilty to some of the lesser charges if the bigger ones (espionage act especially) are dropped. Then he'll claim publicly he was forced to plead guilty, isn't guilty, corrupt DOJ, biased judges, donate here, whataboutBiden, donate here, crooked (insert relevant name), no seriously please give me money, I can do what I want I was President, give me money and I'll match your donation by giving 5x that amount to myself which actually doesn't mean anything because it's already my money but just give me more of your money for reasons I don't care just give me your money, something something Clinton, MAGA!"

I love it! Sounds like Molly Bloom's stream of consciousness.

I can't see Trump pleading guilty to this one - in fact, he's more likely to burn down everything around him and demand that his followers go to war than he is to admit that he did something wrong. Charges under the Espionage Act are incredibly serious. Will be interesting to read the indictment when it's unsealed.

His followers are going mad on Twitter, Biden gets 5m from Ukraine and Trump is indicted over a few documents, Trump had the power to declassify, its a political with hunt to stop Trump, electoral interference etc etc . Wouldn't put it past him to drop a few hints that maybe its time to hit back. He'd phrase it that its unfortunate that ordinary decent people are pushed into action because of a Marxist fascist government.

Trump won't plead guilty as it would prevent him from fundraising off the issue and all that matters is money.

He will stoke up rage and anger and won't give a damn about the possible outcomes.

He would use any public order issues in his bartering - "If you don't drop these charges , the people will fight" etc.

His main focus will be to try and delay the proceedings for as long as possible to try to get himself to the Election without going to Court in the hopes that he wins and can them just shut down all the cases against him.

That is his only play here and he will happily allow his supporters to riot in the streets and get arrested and imprisoned to give him those delays.

Trump has no chance of the Rep. nomination, with all the legal accusations his support is slowly being erased and when it comes down to the choice he will loose.................but expect Trump to cause as much disruption as possible!

You'd absolutely want trump to face all these charges and be on the ticket.

It'll be the biggest defeat in history, and a fantastic send off to an abject political failure.

If Trump is able to stand for the nomination , Trump will win it, simple as that.

And it won't even be close sadly.

The only current GOP candidate that is likely to say a word against Trump in relation to the charges is Chris Christie , all the others will agree with Trump and call it a "Witch hunt" and "Election Interference" etc. despite the fact that by doing so they are ensuring they lose to him.

So just a quick tally of Trump's "achievements" since 2015 (I'll definitely miss a few but just off the top of my head):

    -Lost the popular vote twice.

-Lost the House and Senate during his term in office.

-Failed to get his two main policy announcements done during his 4 years (wall and repeal of Obamacare)

    -Impeached twice

-Left office with a massive increase in national debt, having said he'd get rid of it within a few years.

    -Incited an insurrection

-Found to have sexually abused E Jean Carroll by a court of law

-Indicted twice after leaving office, once under the Espionage Act.

And yet the "party of law and order" is still nailing its colours to him for 2024. The guy is a proven and continuous loser, I cannot understand how the GOP can still be standing behind this guy when it's pretty obviously that in the long-term, he'll ruin both the party and the country. Just shows how his politics of lies, misinformation and division have destroyed the American public's belief in their institutions.

He's obviously being sarcastic (the defence from a certain poster). If only we had a universal indication when you're being sarcastic, that'd be really useful

This is the same party that after Nixon made it their main priority to never get 'caught' again.

Calling Republicans law and order party is akin to calling the North Korean government democratic

What on earth is "for 1500% impact" supposed to mean??

It reads like one of those Nigerian scam emails..

    Just utter nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,770 ✭✭✭✭Penn

It's another way of phrasing their other grift of "We'll match your donation by 5x, so if you donate $20, it'll be like you're donating $120!" However, as they're then just donating the $100 to themselves, it means nothing and they just get the $20.

So with "1500% impact", someone donating $20 believes Trump will actually be getting $320 because of their $20 donation, so may be more likely to throw him a few bucks.

Again, total scam just designed to convince working class people to donate money to a f*cking billionaire.

    WOO! MAGA!

The MAGA meltdown on twitter is something to behold.

Still don't think he'll ever see any real punishment. House arrest in a golf club or some other cushy number.

I also think if he is taken out of the running for 2024 too early there will be time for support to coalesce around a single GOP candidate. (maybe not DeSantis?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,021 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Thing is, trump will never endorse another candidate, he'll pick up the ball and run off home in a strop, and thus the arse of support for another candidate will completely fall through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,770 ✭✭✭✭Penn

He could definitely promise his support to whoever the likely candidate is provided they promise to negate any legal issues he's facing if they get elected to the Presidency. There are plenty of Trump's strongest supporters who might decide not to vote in protest of what happened to Trump. If Trump mobilised them to vote for the GOP candidate it could definitely make a difference.

If Trump is out of the running due to legal issues, backing another candidate so they'd pardon him or have the DOJ drop charges/investigations, that's definitely something Trump would do.

I wonder if the absolute worst thing for the US is if he dies before he’s found guilty of espionage? (Before the right wingers lose their mind, I’m not hoping he dies, just pointing out that he’s 80 and not exactly in peak physical fitness for an 80 year old either.)

MAGA supporters make up what? 10% of the population or so? That’s a sizeable minority that would absolutely believe that democrats chased “their” president into the grave and making him a martyr of some description. Especially if he died before finding him guilty, as he’ll have died “innocent”.

I would say there’s a few nervous people in the Justice dept.

The republicans should absolutely hang their heads in shame though. They were meant to be the party of law and order. Now they just seem to ignore it as doesn’t suit their agenda at all.

The absolute worse thing for the entire world is if he's reelected.

The second worst thing for the US at least (and possibly the entire world) is if the GQP take the white house. Whoever is POTUS could pardon him and not suffer any consequences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,927 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

As I said... I hope he runs while under indictment or charged

Elect a clown... Expect a circus

All charges against Trump could be dropped tomorrow and he could live until he's 140, and after he dies his supporters will still believe that the Dems killed him, while simultaneously believing he's not dead and will be running for Presidency again in 2088. With JFK Jr Jr as his running mate.

That 10% that you're talking about, I think they're too far down the rabbit hole to ever see the light of day again. I think it's more important to try stop people following them down there than trying to pull them back out. Best way for that is to just follow the legal processes to their fullest, and show no-one is above the law. Trump keeps talking about how what's happening to him has never happened before and is unprecedented. Let what happens to Trump become the precedent for if someone tries similar again in the future.

If he dies it wouldn't be chased into the grave. There would be full on conspiracy theories that he was assassinated. Honestly this could be the case whenever he dies.

There is no legal impediment to him running either for the GOP Candidacy or indeed for President while under indictment or even if convicted so Trump will run unless he's actually stopped from doing so.

If the GOP try to cut their losses and block him from the nomination then he will go full scorched earth on them and destroy any candidates chances in the actual election by telling his core supporters to not vote which loses the GOP every swing state and even a few others that aren't traditionally swing states (like Texas for example).

If the GOP allow him to run - Which they will because they are gutless cowards and only care about not getting primaried , then the outcome is the same - Trump will be completely and utterly toxic to most independents and him being on the ticket will make every possible Democrat voter come out and vote.

The only difference in terms of the result is that if the GOP allow him to run anyway it will burn them all the way down the tickets leading to a blowout in the House and Senate for the Democrats. But , if they did block him from standing it might actually help them hold on to some seats , similar to how House/Senate candidates did better than Trump in 2020.

CNN have obtained the transcript of the tape recorded in Bedminster where he confirms that he has National defence document, that he doesn't have the power to declassify it now he's no longer President.

“Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this,” Trump says at one point, according to the transcript. “This was done by the military and given to me.”

“Well, with Milley – uh, let me see that, I’ll show you an example. He said that I wanted to attack Iran. Isn’t that amazing? I have a big pile of papers, this thing just came up. Look. This was him,” Trump says, according to the transcript. “They presented me this – this is off the record, but – they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and him. We looked at some. This was him. This wasn’t done by me, this was him.”

“All sorts of stuff – pages long, look. Wait a minute, let’s see here. I just found, isn’t that amazing? This totally wins my case, you know. Except it is like, highly confidential. Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this.”

As we have known for years, the man is a weapons grade imbecile.

    An utter moron.

Destroys his own defence and adds a few extra charges to the list all in a few moments.

Do we know who he was talking to here?

Given that it's an audio tape and he's heard saying "Look at this" "Look here" etc. is it reasonable to assume that he actually showed someone the document?

If trump is prevented from running its an open goal for that odious creature Ron. Question is, with how awful and dangerous trump is. Could Ron be even worse?
