Well it's that time of the year again.. €25 for a ticket with a 1 in 83 chance of winning something..

Who's in? I recall all tickets didn't sell out last year. Bought a ticket myself yesterday and it was in the 130k's

Don't like those odds for 25 nicker.

Bought one years ago as a Xmas pressie.

I’d sooner win a million than 200 million.

    I have a ticket, i expect little. I don’t get disappointed then

Didn't it used to be €20 and restricted to 250,000 tickets? Now it's €25 and upto 500,000 tickets. They won't sell that many though.

Handy Christmas present for the likes that want to be lazy about buying one.
Possibly a $cam too. Anybody ever heard of anyone actually winning the thing in the good few years its been going on?

I’m sure they put a positive “spin” on that. Like when they made out that more balls in the lotto was a good thing.

I presume there are more of the lower prizes but it's still only 1 top prize.

I just had a look at last years thread. Three people said they won €500, and one person won €5,000. About 450,000 tickets sold last year.

Wasn't there a chap on here last year wondering if he won anything - he was one number out (in numerical order, if the winner was 4321, he was 4322). Felt bad for him.

    25 quid. 500k tickets...

That's over 12 million... give away 2 or 3m in prizes...

Another 2m in admin and advertising...

    That's some moneymaker

Why can you only play lotto or any of their games between 7am and 11pm?

Maybe as some sort of responsible gambling campaign so people aren't up on their phones all hours of the night playing over and over.

€4.615 million in prizes. Unlikely to sell all 500K.

Used to buy them for my family members and the father-in-law.
I won €500 one year, but in the grand scheme of things probably only broke even over 5-10 years of buying.

Didn't realize they increased the price and numbers this year.

I bought a ticket evening. Wiped my arse with it and flushed it down the toilet.
Only slightly more expensive than the fancy triple ply stuff with the cute puppies, that you see in the posh supermarkets.

I'd say you were raging. I mean I've had awkward situations before, but I've never run out of toilet paper.

I received it as a present a few years ago and thought it was the worst and least thoughtful present I'd ever received and I have a long history of receiving bad presents.

Imagine how raging you'd be if you bought a ticket as a present, gave it away and it ended up being the winner! Call me mean-spirited but.... :o

That is why I buy these only for myself.

If you had won a million would you have still thought the same. The person that bought the ticket is giving you a chance to win a large sum of money. I know the chance of winning is small but there is still a chance you could win.

In a vain attempt to head off the conspiracy theorists, there will be 6,009 winners and 493,991 losers. 83/1 odds of getting a prize.

They should thank this thread for advertising! I never even do the lotto or buy scratch cards etc, but just registered online and bought one of these. I won €50 in a raffle the other day so I don't feel like I'm actually spending anything on it. Feck it, I'll give it a whirl.

It's only 1 in 83 if you assume the lads running it actually put in all the prizes. They don't have the best track record in that regard. They've been caught having "forgotten" to put all the prizes in especially for the scratch cards. Strangely it's always the bigger prizes that accidentally get left out.

I was dubious about the lottery when the state ran it. Now I wouldn't waste my money. By the way has anyone heard of any local clubs etc getting money from the lottery. Back in the 90s it seemed every local sports club or community initiative got lottery funding. Haven't heard of anyone actually getting lottery funding in years.

I have 5 of these tickets. Well 3 of my own and husband has 2.. What's his is mine and all that.

Anyhow have 5 in the house and haven't looked at what numbers they are. Not cheap at 25euro each but can just dream of a decent win. Mind you I've always bought one or two before for every draw and I've never won a cent. I remember the time they were 20euro per ticket.

    Here's hoping!

That's a pisser that they're sold out, was going to get one.

Never been so disappointed to save 25e

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,984 ✭✭✭Degag

Bought one but it's pretty scandalous really. 12.5m in revenue and only 4m-ish given in prizes.

Even if they do give 30% to charitable causes, they are making some money out of it.

I've played this every year and bought tickets for family as well. None of us have ever won a cent. It's the same with the main Lotto and EuroMillions. I play them religiously every draw(and depending on the size of the jackpot, spend quite a bit), and the most I've ever won is, wait for it... €104, and that was just once after decades of play. That was far and away the most I've ever won. Play Daily Millions as well sometimes, I may as well tear the tickets up before the draw.

check the lotto app - if memory is correct they were on the website from around 11ish (about an hour after the draw last year), but they seem to be saying check the website on new years day to see the results.
