Browsing Harvey Norman and notice these pop-ups appear a lot on different products. Recently saw a post on reddit where it was shown that these types of pop-ups were just generic and were not linked to others having the product in their basket / in the process of purchasing the item. Wondering if the pop-up below is legit…

Browsing Harvey Norman and notice these pop-ups appear a lot on different products. Recently saw a post on reddit where it was shown that these types of pop-ups were just generic and were not linked to others having the product in their basket / in the process of purchasing the item.

Wondering if the pop-up below is legit or just one of those generic ones and they are just spoofing?

There is no way to know that without access to the servers.

I suppose you could hypothetically test it: you could get 5 of your friends to put the product in their baskets and see if that makes a difference. Not really going to be conclusive one way or the other though

Seems like a marketing ploy. I picked several items at random and all were either that message or that someone in Dublin or Carlow were about to buy it.
